XDJ-1000 MK1 with Traktor

Dear members of the Pioneer DJ team,

Can I get into contact with anybody about a problem which XDJ-1000MK1's have when working with Traktor Pro?

Earlier I have posted some questions but there was no response from forum members familiar with the issue I am experiencing.

In the meantime I have had contact with NI and they have written a response which I would like to share with you to see if there is a solution for this awkward issue.

Can you send me a PM please?

Thank you very much for your help.

Kind regards,

John

Dear Sigo,

Thank you for your reply.
In my contact with NI I have discovered that multiple Traktor users who have XDJ-1000MK1's have the same issues when using them as Traktor controllers.
When you cue up a track at random the XDJ sends out a message to Traktor and the tracks skips to the end.
It seems like it has something to do with the sensitivity of one of the internal triggers, for instance the jog wheel that sends Traktor a message.
In practice this means you always have to look at your screen before you press play on a cued up track, because the chance is big that is has lost it's cue point.
During a gig I have this about 30-50 times which is really awkward.
I have had contact with NI about this and below you can read their reaction.
For years I have been using Pioneer products (starting with the CDJ-500's) but also Traktor which I have organized in a way that I would not like to have to skip to other software.
I own 4 XDJ-1000's and for the rest I am really happy with them.
Have you heard about this issue before and is there a way that you can do anything about it (firmware update???),
As you can understand I do not want to share the response of NI because I do not want to bring you in a bad position, therefore I requested for a PM.
Your response is much appreciated.
Thank you very much.

You are now the 4th user contacting us in regard to problems with the XDJ-1000 mk1´s

It seems that these devices react overly sensitive to vibrations and loud music, which is extremely wierd for a Pioneer product.

But your assumtion is correct:  The XDJ-1000 falsely transmitts controller data to Traktor even though it shouldnt.

You can easily test this yourself:

• connect 1x XDJ-1000 mk1 to your Mac via USB

• start Traktor and "Link" the XDJ-1000 mk1 to "Deck A" or "Deck B"

• now start tapping with your finger on the XDJ-1000´s case and pay attention to Traktors "CTRL" indicator in the software:

• when "CTRL" lights up in blue, Traktor recieves controller data from the connected device

• some affected users already experienced flashing CTRL when just playing music and the speakers were near the XDJ´s

We have recieved 2 user videos that show that the "CTRL" indicator starts blinking once the user lightly tapps on the XDJ´s case (body) or when the music/bass gets louder.

This indicates that there are some overly sensitive controller parts in the XDJ´s that falsely trigger commands in the Traktor software, which should obviously not happen with "club ready" dj equipment.

Unforutnatly there is nothing we can do here from a Traktor technical point of view - the Advanced HID Mappings of the XDJ-1000´s are "locked" and cannot be changed - therefore we could not even find out which components of the XDJ-1000´s are responsible for the issues, but you and your colleagues are not alone with this problem.

We have recommended affected users to contact Pioneers Technical support and provide the videos to them clearly showing a overly sensitive XDJ-1000 operation, that affected the playback in Traktors "Decks" (sudden jumps) or glitchy browser operation (scrolls up/down without user interaction)

Unfortuantly we havent heard anything back from the other users, so i have no idea what Pioneer did to help them, but they never came back.

hope this helps & that Pioneer can offer a solution for you and your DJ colleagues.

@John > I tried this with various equipment connected to Traktor and the CTRL light illuminated for all products, including the CDJ-2000NXS2, but I never had Traktor perform abnormally as a result, certainly not "skipping to the end" of the track, even when I wasn't tapping gently but actually hammering on the unit with my fist.

I presume that the data being sent was possibly a register of movement on the jog - the most sensitive control of the player. Putting two decks into play (with beats aligned), with only one hardware controller connected, I tapped repeatedly on the player to get the CTRL light to blink, but the playback never altered speed to go out of alignment.

Does your issue only occur with one particular player? In other words, when you connect only one XDJ, can you have the same issue replicated regardless of which unit is connected? Or does it only happen when one specific XDJ is connected? It could be there is a faulty player sending some random signal telling Traktor to jump to the end of the track.

Is there a hot cue at the point of the track to which it was jumping? Or was it a specific beat jump interval?

I don't have enough information to be able to provide you with an answer as there are still too many questions.

I confirm this bug one of my xdj1000 mk1 does that too. Remember the cdj400 ? There it was the platter.

Hello Tobias,

Thank you for your response.

I am working on a video to show also the members of Pioneer what is happening.

If I tap the platter I will see the red indicator LED in Traktor respond that there is control activity but this will not create the problem that I am describing.

It seems to be a combination of moving the tempo control of the next song at a specific moment (almost right after setting it to a preset or at the fly created cue point).

Also it happens at random and what you see happening in the selected playlist in Traktor is that the highlighted line with the track will move up or down one line and quickly jumping back again.

If your next track is on pauze waiting to be played the cue point gets lost and the track jumps to the end of this track which will let the player blink as a warning the track has ended.

If you have your next track playing at the background waiting to be mixed over the playing record and you see the line in the playlist jump up or down and back this will not affect the playback of this next track and it will not skip to the end.

This happens to me and my colleagues in a set of 4 hours about 50 times.

If you play and cue your tracks without physically moving the tempo fader before you play this next track (for instance when you play with Sync activated, which chooses the tempo of the next song which will be played) you will not have the 50 situations where the track skips to the end before pressing play.

Also what I have noticed is that it seems to always be default player 2.

I have changed the default settings to check this because during gigs I have noticed that it always seemed to be the right player of all of our 3 sets of 2 players each.

Yesterday after trying it was almost every time the left player which I have set a default player 2).

So this error occurs for me mostly with default player 2 and for me this and the fact that I have this with in total 6 players en 3 Macbook Pro's has nothing to do with faulty players, but would be control / software issue.

Hope we can tackle this awkward issue, because it is very annoying.

Thank you all for your help, this is very much appreciated!

Kind regards,

John
