Were the turntables grounded?

FollowTurntable hum
Hi guys,
I’ve just recently got the xdj rx2 and love the unit...had an issue with a bit of hiss in the headphones when set to mix but I later found that the mic switch was turned to on and when switched off it’s fine now sorted. What I also did is connect my turntables and noticed a faint humming noise when switched to phono....is this normal being that it’s analog or could it be the turntable.
Thanks
Matt

Hi pulse, yes I set both onto the grounding pin.
Phono inputs do have more noise than line or internal sources, but if you have noticeable hum and you've already grounded the turntables to the XDJ-RX2, you may check the wiring on the headshell, or try and isolate the hum by connecting only one turntable at a time and changing the power connections (is the XDJ-RX2 power supply properly grounded as well?)
Yes all are grounded, but I did have a similar issue with my old djm700 a while back, but I’ll have a look at the wiring and see.....is there a possibility that my new rx could be at fault?
I haven't had the opportunity to use one with a turntable myself, but I would expect it to be equal or superior to previous products which did not exhibit any abnormal amount of noise, hum, or hiss. There's always the possibility there is a problem, but I hope not!
Another thing to check is to test if this happens without the master outputs connected; does the hum occur internally through the headphones when monitoring the master? If you turn up the channel gain (with nothing playing) does the hum get louder?
Yes when I disconnect the turntables the hiss is still there and when I have each cue button pressed it does the same and it’s only the headphone volume but not the master or the channel gains.
Sorry, you're jumping ahead of me here -- with the turntables connected, nothing playing, is there a hum through the master and/or headphone outputs?
Sorry..yes there is and when I turn up the headphone volume it gets louder
And the master?
Not the master....just both channel gains and the overall headphone volume....it’s not a loud hiss where it would interfere with the music but just a low hiss
I’ve also just plugged the turntables into my xdj rx 1 and it does the same exactly so I think as you said earlier that it’s just the phono inputs making more noise than the line or other.
I meant "does the hum also go out over the master output"? The master out and headphone each use a different quality amplifier for those outputs; obviously the headphone is a much less expensive amp and would possibly have hiss or a bit of noise, but the if the master is clean, it would be okay.
Yeah the master is ok so probably all good and the fact my rx 1 does the same aswell will probably mean that’s just phono inputs and how they are....cheers for you’re help anyway pulse.
