Syncing iTunes with Rekordbox

Every time I try to sync my itunes playlist with rekordbox I must close both itunes and rekordbox and restart them again. Is this how it normally is? It makes it a really slow process having to reboot both programs just to sync playlists. I assumed as soon as I added a new track to a playlist in iTunes, I should be able to connect my USB and update the playlist without having to close both rekordbox and iTunes. Maybe I'm wrong?
