Any advantage to importing playlists from iTunes to RB ?

Is there any advantage to importing iTunes playlists as RB playlists if I do all my playlist management in iTunes? I'm playing to a DDJ-SZ not a CDJ so I'm not going to be exporting to a USB or anything like that. Obviously I'd import/analyse tracks before use but I can't see any particular advantage to importing playlists and keeping them up to date. But there again I'm probably missing something obvious!!

I think I'm missing something with the way sync manager works.  If I select the checkbox next to an iTunes playlist or playlist tree and click the huge right arrow the playlists are copied to the centre section. Then I close the dialog and .... nothing happens. I was expecting the iTunes playlists to be added to the Playlists, but they're not. If I add a new track to one of the sync'd playlists it's also added to the RB collection, but not to the playlist. So it looks like Sync Manager just imports tracks added to iTunes playlists into the RB collection but that's it?

That's really the reason for the original question, ie is there any advantage to creating a playlist in the RB playlists node? If there's no speed or functionality improvement I might as well play from the iTunes list and avoid the problem of keeping playlist content in sync.

@Mike > It's not an automatic sync. Once you have the playlists selected for sync, you need to click the arrow. That playlist will then be added to rekordbox and the tracks analysed.

If you add a song to that playlist within iTunes, you need to come back to rekordbox and click the arrow again to update the playlist in rekordbox.

Playing directly from the iTunes tree doesn't guarantee that the song you're about to play has been analysed and won't show up in any search, sort, or matching.

I've tried that and it doesn't seem to work. I tried a really simple case:

Created a normal playlist in iTunes and added a single file to it.

Exited iTunes, started RB, went into Sync manager, selected the playlist and clicked the big arrow. The playlist appeared in the RB playlists in the Sync Manager window.

Exited Sync Manager, the playlist isn't in the RB playlists. The playlist in the iTunes playlists has the little sync symbol next to it. I've tried going back into SM and clicking the big arrow again, but it has no effect. The playlist doesn't appear in the RB playlists.

Added the playlist manually to RB (right-click, import playlist) and it contained the file.

Exited RB, added a new file to iTunes and dropped it into the playlist. Exited iTunes, started RB. The new file was added to the RB collection, but didn't appear in the "synced" playlist. Going into SM and clicking the big arrow had no effect. The newly added file wasn't added to the playlist.

This is under Windows, RB 4.5 and 5.0
