128GB Flash drive

 Hi all,

I recently bought a 128GB usb 3.0 Lexar flash drive.  First I took forever trying to find a way to format it with fat32 so that Rekordbox would see it.  I finally found an old dos tool and managed to do it.  Copied music to it without any issues (apart from it being a bit slower that it probably should have been)... but when I plugged it into a CDJ2000 nexus at the club, it just kept trying to load but never did.  Thankfully I had my backup.

I took it home and did some homework, and read that rekordbox works when you format the usb using mac HFS+.  I formatted the drive this way and rekordbox picked up the drive right away.  The copying of my playlists was super fast and so I thought I had it solved.  Since I don't own any cdj's, I only found out when I got to the club, that it wouldn't read.

Can someone explain the best way to use this flash drive?  I just want a large drive and usb 3.0 to speed up the process of loading up before gigs!

The CDJs are capable of reading both FAT32 and HFS+, it could be there was a flag set that prevented the drive from being recognized in either format. Typically this is if the boot sector is not set to MBR (Master Boot Record).

See this video for information on formatting your drive on a Mac.
