PLEASE HELP!! DDJ-RB Jog Wheels STILL Not Working Correctly

Hi,

PLEASE READ WHOLE THREAD TO UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION!

I cannot stress how frustrated I am with my Pioneer DDJ-RB controller. I have tried pretty much everything to resolve this issue and it's not happening.

Basically, when I play a track in Rekordbox I cannot scratch/rewind/forward the track using the jog wheels, all that happens is that the track will go slightly faster or slower depending on which way I'm rotating the jog wheels. When a track is paused I can scratch fine and it works perfect it only doesn't work when a track is playing and it's really hindering my mixing ability.

I have tried EVERYTHING that I know to fix this, I have made keyboard shortcuts for vinyl mode (even when I'm in Vinyl mode and when I'm not in vinyl mode it doesn't work) I have looked on MIDI to see if I can make alterations there and nothing, I can see my RB is connected in MIDI also so there's no problem there, I have also tried the SHIFT+SLIP method that works for other controllers and nothing. I have updated my firmware and my drivers to the very latest and that has made no difference, I've tried changing the USB slot that connects my RB to my computer... I've pretty much tried everything and I'm still getting nowhere whatsoever.

Honestly it's getting to the point where I just want to sell this controller because there is no clear step by step guide or even a clear resolution to what could be such an easy problem and I'm unable to use the controller how I would like to.

Just for clarification I am using a Windows PC and not a Mac.

If there is any other suggestions as to what I could do to resolve this I would appreciate it as I think if I haven't got this resolved by the end of the week I'm just going to get rid of the controller it's just too frustrating not knowing how to fix this.

Thank you for any advice on this.

Matt.

Dear Matt. I was with the same problem as your and I found a solution. If you are using the audio output installed behind of ddj rn, doesn't use it. Try to use the notebook audio output with a cable p2 in a extreme and rca in another extreme. Then connect to input mixer. That was my solution! Good luck and I'm sorry by my poor english.

Dear Mark

No, I don't. But before my solution I discovered something strange. I played a lot of songs in both players of DDJ RB without any audio cable conected. Both jog sensitivity worked perfect. From the moment that I connected RCA cable in output DDJ RB and input mixer, the sensitivity fault returned immediately.

The USB cable is the original one. Do you think that damaged usb cable can cause this problem since, eliminating RCA audio output and using audio output from the computer/ notebook everything works normally with the same USB cable?

Best Regards

Fábio

@Fabio > That sounds to me like the problem is your computer not providing enough power to the USB output. As soon as you connected the RCA cables, it was having to transmit the audio signal over the master output, requiring more power than just the DDJ-RB as a stand-alone device.

Please try using a different USB port, a powered USB hub, USB power-split cable, or even a different computer that may provide more power to its USB ports.

Dear Mark. My fixes posted above had no success. New usb cable, hub usb powered and nothing to solve. I am using Windows 7 with a very good all in one desktop. Today I tried in a notebook with Windows 8 and jog worked perfect, using RCA output and usb also. I am installing Windows 8 in my desktop. I will let you know the result asap.

Dear Mark. The problem is hardware incompatibility between DDJ-RB and my desktop. Windows 7 was changed by Windows 8, BIOS and USB drivers updated jog sensitivity doesn't work. If you have any idea please let me know.

@Fabio > Chances are the problem is your computer not providing enough power to the USB ports for the DDJ-RB to function properly, as you can see from the fact it worked on another computer. Please try using a powered USB hub and that should then provide the DDJ-RB adequate power.

Dear, unfortunately powered USB hub (TP Link brand) was installed with no success.

If you connect the RB to the TP Link USB hub while the USB from the hub to the computer was disconnected, did the RB illuminate the LEDs upon connection?

Yes, RB illuminates with no problem. Then I can connect TP Link USB to the computer with no problem. All RB functions including jog sensitivity work fine while using computer's speaks. Now, It is just to connect RCA on the RB output and mixer input and jog sensitivity stops immediately.

Hold on - the jog stops responding AFTER you connect the RCA cables?

Okay, so as I previously stated:

As soon as you connected the RCA cables, it was having to transmit the audio signal over the master output, requiring more power than just the DDJ-RB as a stand-alone device.

It could also be that the device you're connecting to is causing some kind of interference or short on the RCA connections. You can try using a different output device (amplifier / speakers) and/or different RCA cables. But if it only does that with your computer and it works with another computer on the exact same connection, again, the problem is with your computer, and not the DDJ-RB.

@Roland > What, exactly, is it you're looking to change? How fast the jog reacts to movement? How MUCH it reacts to movement? How light / heavy you need to be on the jog?

Hi, I'm having a similar problem: the right-hand jog wheel will not respond when the song is playing if I am trying to scratch or backspin. I have tried updating the firmware, switching USB ports and using a new USB cable, any advice? thankyou.

@Isaac > And you've made sure you're in vinyl mode? Have you tried resetting the MIDI mapping (open the MIDI panel, click DEFAULTS)?

Eu to com o mesmo problema na DDJ-RB o Jog direito não funciona quando está em reprodução. Apenas pausado. Já troquei cabo, testei em outro computador e nada.
