Traktor / Kontrol X1 MK2 / DJM-850 setup

Hi there, I need some pointers on making a simple setup between the following equipment:

- Windows 10 64-bit PC running Traktor Pro 2
- Kontrol X1 MK2
- DJM-850

I want to mix externally on the DJM-850 and control playback and Traktor's internal effects with the Kontrol X1. I'm preparing ahead for an upcoming gig and I've downloaded the Windows drivers already but I have no access to the DJM-850 as I write this so I am unable to try anything out. Most of the instructions that I've read (and the video tutorials I have seen) deal with making things work with either timecode vinyls or CDs, but no specific instructions on non-timecode setups.

In short can someone tell me what are the settings that need to be configured in Traktor, and similarly on the DJM-850.

Its actually very easy,

Install all drivers, then on the DJM 850 check if the output channels are marked as:

usb 1/2 - channel 1

usb 3/4 - channel 2

usb 5/6 - channel 3

usb 7/8 - channel 4

on mixer output you can select all as "none" or one of the channels as "rec out" if you want to record your set on traktor

on traktor, select "external mixer" and route your 2 channels to the desired channels on the DJM 850.

If you start traktor with the controler and the mixer plugged, you can follow the wizard to set up. if the wizard dont pop up on start, you can acess the configurations on traktor then click on the "setup wizard".

My personal setup is 2 control X1 MK1, Kontrol F1 and DJM 850

good luck!

Hey there, thanks for replying! What happens when I need to hand the DJM-850 back to the next DJ who's using CDJs? Do I just switch the selector at the top of the channels back to CD/Line? Anything that needs to be configured again in the DJM Settings Utility?

Yes, just switch the selector back, you can mix from diferent inputs (ex. one channel from traktor, one from de cdjs) and switch back without any other configurations.

One last question - I also want to be able to record my set. Without an external mixer I usually just hit 'record' and that's it. Will it still work as straightforward when mixing on the DJM-850? I.e. will Traktor's internal recorder be able to capture my channel fader movements and low/mid/high changes?

Yes you can record your set. on the djm setup software output, select on one of the "output" channels the option REC OUT (ex. usb 1/2)

usb 1/2 - channel 1 stereo

On traktor setup mix recording section select "external" and the same channel you set on the djm software setup (ex djm 850 in 0 / djm 850 in 1)

djm 850 in 0 / djm 850 in 1 -> channel 1 stereo

Thats it you should be able to record as usual.
