Destroying my USB

Hi Guys,

I just started to use rekordbox. Already 4 USB drives have died. My mac can't read/see them anymore. The problem started when i was making playlists on the drives. When i have exported my tracks, rekordbox stops, and tells me some other program is using my drive, which is not true. I cant close them ore anything. I have formatted them also to Exfat on Mac.

Can someone please explain where the problem is, and how to fix?

1) exFAT can't be read by rekordbox; the drives must be formatted to FAT32 or HFS+ with an MBR boot record.

2) rekordbox doesn't "destroy" drives, but if the drive was still in use by rekordbox (or another application) when you removed it, you run the risk of damaging the data on the drive by way of a file that did not write-out before removal, or the master file allocation table. In that case, reformatting is the easiest procedure.

1) Yes, i already formatted my new drives to Ms-Dos (fat32).

2) Yes it does: When i formatted it to fat32, i put on some new tracks. When importing this tracks, Rekordbox stops midway and then tells me it is used bij another program, and it isnt! I can't stop it in any way, not true my mac, and remove the disk, not true rekordbox. So i am forced to close the programs, and even then i can't remove it. Now none of my computers can read the drive, Windows and Mac. I already tryed to format it again, but as i told you before nobody reads the drives in any way.

My trial of rekordbox is ending this week, but in this state i won't by the software, it already costs me 3 USB drives so far...

Hi there,

just wanna join the discussion. I think you, Pulse, some time in the past provided a list of USB products that work well with rekordbox. Thanks again for that.

I found out that Corsair and Sandisk USB drives do function well, but Lexar USB sticks do no work at all. Lexar USB drives all of a sudden stop writing during export a one has to stop Rekordbox.

So maybe try a different make of USB drives. Rekordbox cannot physically destroy a USB drive.

I use scandisk, Kingston.

@marc2405 true, it cant physically destroy it. But the software can have a bug or some, which forces me to destroy it. You understand my point here?

Yeah i will keep tracking the use of my drives, i just put in 10 songs at the time now, rather then a whole playlist!

I've never seen rekordbox interrupt an export operation because "the device is in use by another application" - that would only ever come up if you were trying to eject it.
