I've given up and gone back to Virtual DJ.

I bought the XDJ-RX2 in October 2017 with high hopes.  I do like the mixer itself (although have had one freeze in that time) but as for Rekordbox I've given up.  I managed to get one of the units that came with a Rekordbox Video licence which I was pleased with as I could save on my VDJ subscription.  How wrong I was.  By December 16th I'd gone back to VDJ. Why?

Well...

Rekordbox (Performance mode)

  • Slow, laggy
  • Poor search interface
  • STILL can't use in full screen when using video out
  • Aspect ratios not right
  • No VOB support (meaning I had to reencode about 10000 videos)
  • No mixed playlists

When I went back to VDJ it was like coming home - no lag, use all my VOB files, easy INSTANT search with no lag, fullscreen interface, mixed playlists.

Thank you to Pulse for regular updates on issues but the engineers and the software designers just haven't been able to get Rekordbox right for me in Performance Mode.  For me it is way behind VDJ in terms of functionality and usability - it's like VDJ 7 from about 5 years ago.

I understand the frustration -- I'm a Pioneer DJ specialist and until rekordbox 5, I was still using Serato DJ as my primary performance software because of small nuisances. I don't do video, so I'm not as specific about those requirements (and I understand that plays a big part of your decision to switch back).

Even though there are still a whole host of things that I'd like to see updated, changed, fixed, or added, I know the rekordbox team is working very hard to address all the concerns and feedback the users are providing, including the very gripes on your list. The nice thing is you have the license, so you can always pop back from time to time to see if it's finally in a place where you would consider staying with it. After all, there's some fantastic features already in place (and coming down the pipeline).

Thanks for the candour.
