DJM 900NXS2 + TASCAM DR-40X DIGITAL AUDIO RECORDER

Hello! I just purchased a 900NXS2 and was wondering if I can connect my Tascam DR-40X digital recorder to record some mixes. I tried using the REC OUT (RCA to dual 1/4") but it just redlines the entire time with no ability to change the levels. Should I be using the Digital MASTER OUT instead? I know I can plug directly into my laptop via USB, but I'd love to utilize my Tascam as well.

Thanks for your help!

That's because the master recording output is not affected by the master levels on the mixer so it won't change when you adjust the master knob. The output is based on the channel gain; stay out of the red and you won't clip. You can also adjust the output recording level in the mixer's preferences.

Hi,

although I don't own a recorder, after some googling it looks like many people had problems with REC OUT level of several club mixers being too high for their recorders.

Did you check:

- Set your input to LINE IN on the Tascam
- Lower the input level on the Tascam

If this doesn't work, you could use the BOOTH OUT (using a different cable) as its level is adjustable.

Or you use a cable / adapter with built-in attenuation.
