djm-900 auto bpm not accurate like djm-800??

djm-900 auto bpm not accurate like djm-800??

I have the djm-900 for 3 weeks now and found that the auto bpm is not as accurate

like my older djm-800...

Is this possible?

Regards,

Michel

Hey,

I'm using cdj 2000's

Bpm couter on the djm-900 is all over the place, high to low...

Got the cdj 2000's linked but the mixer not.

Sounds like my problem.. Is it sometimes 50 bpm off? Ive seen a track that is 128 bpm display as 170 bpm on the mixers readout..

I use traktor tho..

I dont recall seeing the issue when using cds or rekordbox tho..

does it seem to go particularly off during track breakdowns and vocal sections?  if so, i think we have the exact same issue.

Look at this vid - ull see what happens to my bpm.. is this the problem?  this track highlights the issue really well.. its usually not this far off but its not that uncommon to have it jump 20-30 bpm or just flash alot (cant detect bpm).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfyqSeU9xcU

Ill try the same track on cd (no traktor) later to see if it does the same thing.. I always thought it was a midi clock issue but maybe its not..

Seems like the same problem, happens in breaks, but also when there is a normal clean beat around 130bpm.

Also happens with hiphop etc. flashing, can not detect bpm...

its pretty useless for me when it comes to non-EDM.. pretty rare that it actually even captures a bpm (just stays flashing) for any non-EDM tracks.

u have any popular hiphop track names that I can test out to see if our bpms are consistently wrong?  MAYBE pioneer will fix something if it can be recreated..

Pioneer has never acknowledged this to be an issue.. my djm700 was spot on 95% of the time but djm900 just doesnt get the bpm right even half the time (TAP doesnt even hold the bpm steady!).. this has been my biggest annoyance with the djm900

@michel > If you're using CDJ2000's, why not connect the LINK cables and have the mixer pick up the Rekordbox beatgrid data?  It would be a MUCH more accurate BPM.

As for the stability, pressing the TAP button once would disable the auto-mode and thus lock the BPM.

But  I like to know how it possible that my old djm-800 was so accurate and my new djm-900 is not?

Is this a overall problem or do I just have a bad djm-900?

I know i can tap but i'm using lots of different styles of music from hiphop to house, and very fast, so tapping is

more work sinds i'm used to the very accurate old djm800

Both mixers should be equally accurate -- the 900 even moreso if you use the Quantize beatgrid data from CDJ2000's or CDJ900's.

For  perfectly cooperation of the devices, they should be wired via network.

Michel - any luck solving this? Any acknowledgement from pioneer that u either a) have a problem or b) have a broken unit?

Ive contacted tech support multiple times but they dont seem to even know whether my clock issues are actual issues or not and they direct me to these forums for further support. Tried writing to pioneer about this horrible customer service on a 2000 dollar mixer. Have heard nothing. Think it may be time to move along from this mixer.. Its been about 3 months since i first reported this and i was pretty patient as this wasnt the highest on my list of priorities. But not knowing whether ill ever be able to properly midi sync this thing or even get proper bpm readouts has me concerned.

Let me know if ur able to figure this one out? My email is kevins212@gmail.com

@ Kevin Savage > Is the problem only occurring when using Traktor?

If you can, please double check the same tracks on CD if possible, on USB when not analyzed with Rekordbox, and with USB when analyzed with Rekordbox.

Also, if this is only happening with Traktor, what OS, what version of OS, and what version of Traktor are you using?

@ Michel > Are you also using software and seeing this issue? If so, what software and what version of software?

Have you tried using the same tracks on CD's or a USB stick?

Well wen i use the utp connection it works fine, but I use 2 dvi 1000 next to my cdj 2000's

so bpm al over the place is just not working for me!

Pioneer needs to fix the problem with the auto bpm!!!!

@ Michel > No one can say there is a problem unless you provide more information so Pulse can try to replicate your issue. Could you please provide the following info to help Pulse or helpful users to try and see whats going on here.

Are you using software and seeing this issue? If so, what software and what version of software?

Have you tried using the same tracks on CD's or a USB stick?

Thanks,

Foster

i use no  software, only rekordbox for my usb stick.

In rekordbox the tracks are perfect on bpm.

Using djm 900, 2x cdj 200, 2x dvj 1000

I tried the same track on every deck, on cd/dvd/usb with the djm 900 connected.

If i use the djm 800 with the same track, on cd or dvd or usb.. the auto bpm is perfect!

@ Michel > Thanks, I'll try to replicate this on the weekend and get back to you. Any specific genre I should try? Most likely not EDM? Or possibly in the breakdown of some EDM?

Go to kevins212 on youtube and you'll see a video that shows the problem with fluctuating bpm - granted this is using midi sync via traktor..

ill do more testing and post more recreate videos (including the TAP problem).

Pioneer is well aware of these bpm-related problem as I've reported it 5-10 times with NO response from Pioneer.  However, I did just get a message via email this morning saying to call them so ill try again + update you guys.

@Kevin > Pioneer DID respond, which is why I'm here and what I'm doing.  They are currently investigating the issue across various styles of music.

@Pulse - can u show me where my thread MONTHS ago was responded to with any closure (except from another member who really went out of his way to help me resolve the issue but no luck)?  I appreciate your help on the forum but I'd expect customer support calls + emails to be a route to get things solved as opposed to hoping the forum works things out (which it didnt in my case).  I waited patiently but heard nothing until this thread came up.

I have ran some tests this morning and will post some videos.. Hopefully all the time I have spent doing this is not time wasted and pioneer actually fixes the issues relating to BPM + midi sync.  I'll give you the links shortly.. I also tested this on a similar-grade mixer from another company but out of respect to pioneer, I will not post these videos.  But I will say that it worked as one would expect on the other mixer.

@pulse and pioneer
Here is a link to a youtube video.. Then go to my username videos and ull find 5 vids all named starting with djm900 01 thru djm900 05

Each vid shows different scenarios which are explained in vid description.

Vid 1 and 2 are using auto bpm with cdj line input.

Vid 3 and 4 show trying to get djm to use traktors midi clock which just doesnt work at all

Vid 5 shows using djm as master clock and traktor as slave. This actually works but ull see in first part that using djm auto detect is unworkable because of its fluctuation. In second part, ull see using djm tap which is about the closest thing to working properly but it still doesnt hold exactly. And this is pretty much useless as tap is not something id want to use as a permanenet bpm solution.

Please advise on:
1. Is this the way djm900 is supposed to work? Or is my unit broken?
2. Are there other settings that i should confirm ive tried?
3. Do you require anymore info from me? If u want me to run more tests, tell me what they r and ill do it.
4. What r e next steps for resolving?
5. Anything else i should be aware of?

@Kevin > I may have missed that thread due to travel this year, but the forums are often a more up-to-date source of information than some of the tech support and we have knowledge that the support agents may not have.

Just so you know, the DJM doesn't receive BPM MIDI so vid 3 and 4 would never work.

I'll check your info and the engineers are looking into the issue as well.

No problems at my end. From unanalyzed tracks off USB stick and CD my DJM-900 jumped between 135 - 137 only a couple times but stayed right on 136 what it should have been. I unplugged the "Link" connection as well, and it only flashed at 135 during the breakdown. But the CDJ was right on the whole time.

so the problem is in our djm 900's!

probably a hardware problem.  So we need to go back to the store??

@pulse - thanks for confirming that djm900 does not receive midi clock.. Are there any plans to make it do so in future via firmware update? Any workarounds? How are others dealing with this? I imagine Im not the ony one who wants to sync to an external clock..

Unfortunately, that makes syncing it with traktor impossible until the auto bpm issues that Michel and I seem to be having are resolved.. If it were stable, i can make traktor use external clock tho imo it would seem like using traktors midi clock would be more logical. Hopefully this is something pioneer adds in future..

@Michel > No one can say there is really a problem right now because there are a lot of factors that can result in different things. As I've noticed, you have a lot of threads with a lot issues you've been having, and all of the others have been mishaps and can be explained. I wouldn't result to saying this is a problem since there could still be a couple things causing the issue.

For the time being, have you now resulted in plugging in your DJM-900 via ethernet to your CDJ-2000's to get perfect accuracy via the "Link"? That's the best way to ensure everything works, as well as using Rekordbox analyzed files. I understand you still seek a response based on the issue, but I just want to make sure you're still getting the accuracy the DJM-900 has via the "Link"?

@Kevin Savage > I cannot see the DJM-900 ever receiving MIDI clock BPM. You might have to start a new thread and ask other users what they do about it. Are you using the DJM-900 to control the mixer features within Traktor?
