hi, ive been watching some 900 nexus videos on youtube and ive seen a guy using the roll effect then layering a colour effect on top of this, can this be done on the djm 2000? ive already tried it and im having no luck, can anyone help ?

Continue checking YouTube as there are probably some videos of it.
I would say as long as you can use the standard effects by themselves, and use the INST FX by themselves, and they don't have overlapping controls or knobs, then you should be able to.
i cant find anything on youtube.... ive tried assigning the roll effects to other channels and to master but still can layer an instant effect on top, maby pulse could get back to me on this one?

Perhaps it was your search title in YouTube, because your question doesn't have to do with your topic title "post fader effects". Your question is about "layered effects". ;)

Double check you have your "Level/Depth" knob set to 12 o'clock so the INST FX will be sent through.
The 800 and 2000 are the same where as the 700 and the 900 are the opposite with post/pre fader. So you can do what your talking abou on a 700 and a 900 but not the 800 2000.

My apologies if it was "post fader" and I misunderstood.
@aaron: The DJM-2000 effects are NOT post-fader. It is not possible to do what you have described on a DJM-2000. This is one of the things that irked some DJM-2000 owners when the DJM-900nexus was released.
Layering effects is something different entirely.
As time goes by im getting more and more dissapointed with this mixer :/ i love the layout and it has so much potential, but the effects are such a let down....... i just wish pioneer would give us a firmware update that would make it the mixer its supposed to be :(
Assigning the effects to a crossfader or the master DOES make them post-fader.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I assumed we were talking about the Inst FX (my bad!), which are not post-fader. Obviously assigning beat effects to the crossfader of master will make those post-fader. But the filters etc. will never be post-fader on the current version of the DJM-2000 hardware.

but some of the instant efx can be layered? i can use the trans beat effect and layer a jet or filter over the top, why cant it be done with the roll or slip roll? is it really a hardware issue or a software issue? as the hardware seems to work fine on some of the beat effects?
Yes some can it all depends on it if there's any of the original singnal coming through. Eg a roll is all effect if you spin the platter with a roll engaged nothing happens because it's all effect. The trans only cuts out parts of the original so the instant effects can still control the original does that make sence?

Yes the roll is a good example - turn on roll then apply a high pass filter... nothing happens.
Another demonstration is this - put on an echo with the EQs set very high so that the echo trails off very very very slowly, and turn off the track you are playing. You should now only hear the echo effect. Apply a filter... high pass, low pass, zip, crush, jet... you will hear no change.
Do both of those on a 900, and you will hear the effect. To be totally honest, it's not actually that big a deal. The only real frustration is not being able to post-fade effect the roll. The rest is pure psychology - the fact the 900 has something that the 2000 doesn't.
