DJM-900 Echo comes in too loud

Personally I upgraded from the 800 to the 900 and I have had no problem with the echo, yes it's sounds and acts different than the 900, and the reasons are pointed out in the other post you found.   I dont think it something that needs to go back to how it was, maybe just learn how to use it so it sounds how you want, on the 800 I used the level around half but the 900 you can get away with it much lower than that.  And with the Quantize on it's great for mic voice overs, it's got a lot more depth than the old echo as well, personally I say technology moves on and so do DJ's/effects dont hold back just experiment :-)

Personally, I think it's better than the 800's echo... <shrug>

So I just picked up the DJM900, so far I love this mixer, the new effects are nice, I am starting to get used to the echo just trying to get the timing down to cut the fader then hit echo on the next beat so it doesn't come in too loud. Is that pretty much what you guys are doing to use it where it sounds decent? 

Hard one to answer, it depends what you are doing, I do mainly Tech-House/Minimal mixes at the moment so I use it during fills or where I think I can add to the overall sound of the track to make it a little more interesting, some times I use it post fader but not a great deal, I fade my echo's in using the Level so I can control how it sounds, and sometimes taking it to the max then applying some white noise over the top..  but it really depends on how i'm feeling, what i'm doing and how much stella i've drank :-p

For your use I would set the level on the 3rd or 4th dot and hit it on the beat and fairly quickly cut the fader, but it's each to your own, this is what makes each and every dj stand out.. I dont want to be like another DJ, I have my own style ;-)

Thanks for the info, I like to be a little different too :)   I mainly use once in a while at the end of a mix to kind of echo out the previous song. I was practicing a lot with it last night and it just seems like if I drop the lever to like 3, it is so low you cannot even hear the echo. The real test will be Saturday when I do a party live, its hard to get a true feel when practicing at home on small speakers

I record almost all my sets and realized the same thing with the DJM900- the echo is slightly too loud when the knob is in the middle- it's very obvious on the recorded sets' wave forms vs. the DJM800- so now when i use the echo i never go to the middle (12 oclock) anymore... could be slightly lowered in the next firmware update ;)

I tried using this live again yesterday and unfortunately there are some things with their new "improved" echo that cannot be done like the DJM800, for instance, Yesterday at a private even I had to play Party Rock Anthem, At the point in the middle of the song where they say "shake that", I always triggered the echo so it would fill the dead air with the shake that echo, good luck trying to do that now on the 900, it carries so much from behind the shake that part that it sounds like shit. it seems like the echo carries like a 4 beats behind when you press the efx button instead of just 1 beat. God I wish my 800 never blew up

I have to agree with BriChi. After more than 6 months i still can't get the post-fader echo to sound as clean and natural on the 900 as I could on the 800. Let me be clear: Slowly adding in the echo effect to a track during a breakdown or something as a fill sounds great, especially when quantized. My issue is that I'm having trouble "grabbing" part of the track to tail off post-fader. Pretty much how BriChi describes it trying to use it on Party Rock. 

As silly as it sounds, maybe one of the Pioneer guru's can give us a lesson on how to use it properly?

theres no lesson needed unless a pioneer rep or someone can duplicate my demo video with party rock I posted in the link below without having to move the knob to echo at the exact time you want to grab, they changed it and really no way around it unless you "trick" it and turn the knob to echo AND activate the effect at the same time you want to grab the audio, Hopefully they can change something because most people using the 900 come from the 800, no reason at all why they had to change the echo, there was never any complaints on 800 echo, now the echo if you want to grab a quick portion, is pretty much unusable

@Pulse, Gavin, Foster, or any other Pio rep,  Can any of you guys look into possible having the echo changed back? I have no luck trying to replicate certain echo effects I love doing, it keeps grabbing audio too far back. The worst is now I sold the 800 and the couple of dj's I used to rent my gear to hate the new echo also, I still don't get the change. I see more complaints now then there were when the 800 was released
