DJM 2000 Booth Output

I had a question.

Reading the "Recording with DJM 2000" articles, I noticed Pulse mentioning that using the Booth to monitor was easier to control the volume with the monitors set up. Meaning the Master output could be at its "optimum audio level". somethign along the lines of that.

My question is that if the master out put is running at the 0db, or which ever the best audio level it should be, does that mean using the booth output as the way to monitor sound better as to me turning down the master output and using master alone?

Currently, i use the master output, but do to the monstorous size the out can make if i make it go past even -6db so my meters for my channels vs. the master outputs sound levels are drastically different.

I am not recording with the master output, as i use the serato box to record while using rekord box.

Would in this case, upping the levels of the master output but controlling what my monitors project with the booth provide me with the best sound quality while I do my sets at home? Please let me know if I should refine my question

@SpeakerHandz > My suggestion would be to use the booth output for monitoring; as noted, keeping the master and channel levels at equal levels will result in matched levels in the headphones between the two.  The master output has a better quality DA converter than the booth does, but for the sheer ability to control the levels independently, you're best off that way.

mmm i understand.  That would also mean that the Booth output should be playing at the "optimal levels" that the master is projecting out?

and could you educate me alittle on what you mean by " The master output has a better quality DA converter than the booth does"?

Hellno, just adjust the booth-out to whatever volume level you need!  If you're doing it for recording purposes, why not use the USB, digital or recording outputs?

As for the DA converters -- there are digital/analog converters for all the outputs; as the booth output doesn't require as high a quality as the master and recording outs, it uses a lower cost/quality converter.  Plain and simple!

I already use my recording output (post master?) can i use serato scratch live to record as i can just "click" record and done deal. I do use rekord box to use the full functioning of te cdj 2000s.

but talking about recordings, IS IT BETTER QUALITY to record via the djm 2000 usb? or can i stick with the scratch live method. To me the scratch live method hasnt caused problems with my mixes. BUT if your suggestion makes them sound EVEN BETTER, surely no reason not for me to not try it.

(And I opened this article mainly to ask for my personal monitor output sound quality, as i used to use master for the monitors btu the levels were always well well well under 0 db.)

Hi Pulse,

Question re this and using a RMX1000 with a DJM 2000. If you are using the Monitor Outs to control your monitors and have the RMX1000 set up in the Master signal chain (as opposed to set up as a S/R device) via the Master Outputs on the DJM2000 (DJM2000 Master Out to RMX1000 Inputs and RMX1000 Outputs to Main System Inputs) is there anyway to monitor the RMX1000 effects in a live situation, as it seems the RMX1000 is post all faders and only effecting Main Output ?

Not really in this setup, no.

The monitor outputs are happening inside the mixer, they are controlled by the mixer.  In your setup, the RMX-1000 is completely separate from the mixer - everything the RMX is doing is happening outside of the mixer.  If you are in a home setup, using the booth out instead of the masters, I think, is a little weird.

In a live environment at a gig, then I guess using an RMX inline with the master out is kind of pointless.  To be honest I don't think you'd ever see that happen anywhere.  I suppose it's another 'pro' for using the RMX as a send/return device unless you're never going to be using it in a live gig situation, or any situation where you need separate monitors in order to perform.

Hey Mark, yep I thought as much, reason I would set it up this way would be so I can use the internal effects in the DJM2000 as well as the RMX1000, as using the RMX as a S/R means you can't use any of the non colour internal effects. Never mind is cool unit anyway. Let me know if you know of a workaround to this

@Matt > You can still use the standard effects, you just can't use them WITH the RMX effects.  There is another way to do it, but it can result in damage due to a possible feedback loop and extremely high signal levels, so I won't be posting it.
