[SOLVED] Recording using Audacity w/ a DJM600 and a Macbook Pro

Hello there, Thank you in advance for reading this,

I've got 2x CDJ 1000 MK3s and a DJM 600, I want to record my mixes and read that I could do this through my Macbook Pro (I've got a Macbook Pro w/ Retina if that makes any difference). I tried to use an RCA cable (Left and Right into 3.5mm auxiliary) that goes into my Macbook's headphone jack and into the back of my DJM600's 'Record Out'. When recording the sound through audacity it doesn't record through my headphone jack / mixer but it actually uses the MacBook's default sound recorder? So of course the recording isn't clear and it picks up any outside noise (sound of the faders being moved, cue buttons being hit etc.) There are options to change things both through audacity and the 'Sound' preferences on my Mac but there are no other options than the ones selected.

So my question is, is recording it straight from my mixer into my macbook actually possible or do I need to buy an adapter or USB attachment of some sort? I had a look online through various audacity/pioneer forums etc. but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

Many thanks,

Ryan Huff

I got the DJM 900 and I see it has record out RCA jacks on the rear of the mixer. How can I record a live set?

@Ryan > You have two options: the cheapest, and not necessarily the greatest quality but should be ok, is your current method. But you'd want to connect to the microphone input in your laptop - not the headphone output. The second option is to buy an external soundcard and choose that as your sound card on your laptop and record in that way. Don't forget to read our recording guide: http://forums.pioneerdj.com/entries/20108413-Recording-Guide

@Crimson Twins > As the 900 has a built in soundcard, you can connect the mixer via a USB cable to your computer. Then in your recording software of choice, choose the 900 as the audio device and record away!

@Ryan > Thats not really optimal for DJ use at all. You'll need to something with RCA connections - try Motu / Numark etc.
