Funny,,,I posted a topic earlier about how to get my CDJ 800 MK2 platter back to new condition (very sensitive after 6 years of heavy use)  and low and behold, I was routed to this new forum, although my thread did not post?????  which sucks!  It looks like Pioneer is trying to get rid of anything that is old hardware, and focus on the future with their new gear, and not look back to support??

This is a step back not a step forward, this day and age where Socail networking is so big, you would think that pioneer would make it more SOCAIL instead it seems to be less socail, no post coster means we dont know who is new, therefor when offering advice we could end up sounding like we are teaching our granny to suck eggs, PHPBB3 is free, easy to edit and has alot more features, users can create a profile a send each other private messages, on these forums quite often we want to offer advice, and know that if we do it will be removed, perfect example being, when someone asked what do i need to transfer vinyl to digital format, i offered up what he needed and where he could buy it, i got my post edited so therewas really no point in me even replying, if we had a profile and able to send private messages to users we become more helpful and more socail, pioneer you need to sort yourself out

Ok bare with me, I'm going to try to address everyone's post here...

First of all, thank you to all those who supplied constructive criticism - it helps us help Zendesk which in turn will make the end user experience better for everyone.

@DJ SpiritMoon > Noted re: sub forums.

@EpikureE > I don't see how it differs that much from a bulletin board. Granted it does have a more minimalist feel but you can easily organise each sub-forum by hitting 'recent' to see the most recent posts, just like the old Eve system.

@Kratonic > Noted about the latest firmware - will update later. Yes, end users cannot edit their comments and we have made the request to Zendesk.

@Funk Observatory > How so?

@ThatWillGuy > I asked you your opinion, remember?

@Thomas Robertshaw > Thanks for the feedback.

@Fenderisc > Thanks for your feedback too, from a similarly poor Ireland.

@AngusGibbons > We've asked about the 'stickies' in the subforums being latest posts rather than whats there.

@Setz3R > Our last system was Eve / LiveCloud. This support system is provided by Zendesk. They are entirely independent companies.

@DJ B-Leve > The old forums are still there but just at a different URL - http://forums-archive.pioneerdj.com - if you had a question there that wasn't addressed during the changeover, please ask us here. All information about new firmware etc is in a dedicated subforum category at the top of the main forums page.

@MichaelSherman and @Jay Dee > Thats not true. All CDJ issues go in the CDJ sub-category and older products will hit the legacy section. Pioneer is committed to service all its valued customers, no matter what generation gear they are using.

@DJ Ric > I disagree - this forum has much better social integration (notice the Facebook box in the right column on the main page). Further, the software also enables us to create tickets from Twitter users by searching through Pioneer product mentions on Twitter. We asked about the post counter and it is unlikely, Certainly, in my opinion, if I had a serious issue with a product I would wait for advice from an official from that company to respond to my question / query before I undertook something that could damage my equipment. If its a something a little more simple then I'll assume that poster is trying to help me and try what they suggest. PHPBB3 didn't offer a viable solution to fit our needs and PMs are far from a priority. I'm not aware of your edited post - perhaps you could point it out to me and I can see why it was edited...? If you supplied information about where the user could buy the item then I'm going to assume that link was edited as the rules stipulate no posting of individual suppliers of DJ gear. There's a certain irony in [para-phrasing] "if we had private messages it would help us be more social".

Again, we want to make this the solution for all our users and searches of information. I really cannot emphasise how streamlined this new system is in terms of communicating with product planners and the engineering team. No more emails potentially lost in the abyss and from an agents point of view, I've seen a much more efficient and timely response to some issues we've raised as tickets already.

Yes gavin i noticed the facebook box, and all i can say is WOW WE CAN BE SOCAIL TO PIONEERPRODJ facebook page, i have my facebook account saved within these new forums but is it visable to other users, NO.

and to answer your question, yes it was a dealer i refured this guy to because he was from scotland i knew where he could get the item he required, but what i would say is in the rules it also says about not discussing competitors product, i have often seen people talking about newmarks controlers, and the NI, kontrol s4 are these not comepting with the S-DJ T1? and that is just an example we all know there is hundreds of posts with regards to competitor product and have they been edited? again that would be a huge NO

@Gavin -

I meant opinion as to what kind of system to switch to from the LiveCloud software.  What you asked us for was feedback about an already selected software package ;)  I will admit, this is a huge leap forward for technical support.  But it's not very user friendly as a forum, which is a big secondary use, especially compared to the LiveCloud network.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand WHY the switch was made.  It's just...I dunno...so boring.

Okay, Pulse - don't jump down my throat about any of my comments below. You asked for feedback, so I'm going to give mine. Here we go.

I'm personally not a fan of this forum at all. I actually find myself not coming to contribute as I did in the old forums. It's not just a "change" thing - I don't mind change, as long as it is a good change. The whole feel to the community here is different, and in a detrimental way.

First off, the navigation layout is second-rate. The multi-column layout for the topic forums is a little confusing - a more linear layout would be easier to transition to.

Once you have clicked into a forum, the whole "overview" view is pointless. It should just be newest replied topic on top on down - just like on any other forum, or email, or twitter, or facebook, etc. It's just the way we perceive things in the age of social media and the way it defaults just adds to confusion IMO... and every time I back out of a topic and into a sub-forum, it resets back to overview.

The inability to imbed images and video along with the lack of editable posts should have been a deal breaker. These are "front line" tactics that we all use to help support each other. End of story. But we also use images to show off new gear, how-to guides, and lots of other fun stuff that are just gone now.

The password thing is retarded. I'm not logging into my bank and a standard 6 character password format is more than adequate. If a user wants to use a more secure password, then they absolutely can - but there really is no reason to force people to use crazy-secure passwords on a forum like this. We aren't linking financial information here so it's overkill. It would be a small gesture of goodwill to rethink that decision.

I get that the integration with the engineering department is better - not that I know this from any first hand experience, just from what I've been told... but those types of improvements should be more of a behind the scenes change that is transparent to us, the end-user. There are too many sacrifices endured  with this new system community wise if you ask me. It is just too difficult to navigate around, to browse through topics, to keep up with conversations, etc.

The post count thing I don't *really* care about - but being one of the few active users that had close to 1200 posts on the old system, the post counts, for me, were a good way to easily discern what was a legitimate issue rather than someone that has just joined the forum and is looking to start a flame war. I understand why it is not a priority, but post counts exist on forums for more than just puffery.

Overall - the lack of usability is going to cause a decline in board activity. A lot of what goes down here is technical support, but there was also a lot of general comradery that went on just by us throwing pictures up of our gear, discussing how we had things set up, and other general nonsense that made it fun to come to visit the board a few times a day. This change has created an over sterilized environment that just feels unwelcoming right from the time you register with that ridiculous password requirement.

I'm a business major, so I'm big on cost/benefit analysis. While I'm sure that the streamlined way the admins can communicate with the engineering department is great - I honestly can't see it being more important than maintaining a strong community of users. Making things easier on the admins isn't a legitimate reason to make things worse for the end user. It is a simple business practice - you develop new tools, products, ideas, and services to make the lives of the end user better. To add utility and create value. I believe that the change to this new "forum" has done the exact opposite.

@DJ Ric >  Do you want your Facebook profile visible on these forums? It is inevitable that users will compare products so it becomes very difficult to police this but dealers are a strict no.

@ThatWillGuy > Ah, gotcha! Well that was a decision made by the moderators and administrators of the forum.

@RyanTV > Thanks for your feedback. You can click 'Recent' after entering a subforum to display the most recently active threads however I do agree I would also like to see this as the standard (default) display setting. You can embed videos and images (or at least, I thought I could when I tried using a new-user-level account). As many people share passwords I understand the Zendesk decision to require complicated passwords. A six character password can be easily broken in a short period of time from a brute force attack from not very sophisticated hardware / software.

See this link to see how long it takes to force passwords -  http://unwrongest.com/projects/password-strength/

@Gavin - And it probably went even higher than that.  But, hey, what's done is done!

On a general note, I'll agree that the strong password thing is unnecessary.  I can understand it from Zendesk's point of view, but for Pioneer's purposes, seems a bit overkill.  I've already had to reset my password once because I couldn't remember it :D

I originally thought the strong password  was over the top, but now I'm all for it, the reason is this (whether or not it's intentional by Pioneer is another thing)

There is an astonishing large number of people who use the same password (or similar variants) of the same password for every website, and a lot of those passwords don't meet the complexity requirements of this forum.  This forum isn't secure, and passwords could be intercepted quite easily, by enforcing such a high complexity requirement, Pioneer are preventing a lot of users who do use the same password for their facebook, banking, email etc from entering and transmitting it in plain text when they log in to here.

Is it possible to have the 'Found this post useful' button on replies rather than the master topic?  It's a bit misleading, if someone's posting a topic that's a question, it's not really the original topic that we're finding useful, but rather one of the replies.

I dont like it.... im all for change when its good but this layout is hard to read harder to navigate, and it doent look like a fourm. My vote it to dump it and go back to the old one.

All -- We will not be changing back to the old system but notes are being made and passed along to Zendesk to improve their software.  We have also changed the password security to "a minimum of 5 characters" because you guys obviously have little care about your account security and I'll have to potentially deal with account hacks and bots and whatnot (so thanks for that).

You'll eventually get used to the forums just as we did when we changed from InfoPop to Eve a few years back.

@AngusGibbins > Sorry, the software doesn't offer that option.

Personally i like the format & layout on the (Eve) forum but I do agree that it would be just a matter of time this (Zendesk) Forum gets better. I'm an optimistic so im willing too give dis forum a chance.

I also don't like the new layout.

I know - every change means to inure but now it seems a little bit confusing/unclearly. The old one had a better overview.

And now some more Subforums would be nice...

After ignoring this forum since the change because it was so horrible I decided to log on today and see what was new. I spent almost 15 minutes just trying to see what was new, look up information, and follow some threads...all that did was to leave me with a foul taste in my mouth. I would have to agree with many on this thread and say this change is not going to be productive for either facilitating information to users, or a sense of community.

What is most interesting however is Pulse's comments and mission to seemingly want a complete destruction of anyone who posts a negative comment. Many of these comments were well thought out and said in a respectful manner and yet Pulse seems to take all of this very personal. And even when the "power that be" listen to those that have made comments, like changing the password, Pulse has come back and ridiculed those that take advantage of that change.

Personally, I don't work for Pioneer, I only buy their gear. But any thought that the new forums would bring a new attitude from the moderators has been quickly and decisively been laid to rest. At least for me.

Pulse, this part is for you. You can act and say anything you want it, this seems to be your house. However over the last 6 years you have changed from a helpful individual to someone who knows that you are in a position of power and that you have no restraints. That's a shame as you have great knowledge and a wonderful pulpit to speak from. But if nobody comes here anymore than all you will be doing is speaking to an empty room. And with every other vendor shouting from the rooftops about their product, AND being helpful on their boards, this puts you and Pioneer at a disadvantage.

I hope things change here. I like reading about Pioneer products and helping others out when I can.

I hope everyone is doing very well, and had a great weekend. Taking a look at the new forums everyday I’m enjoying the new layout more and more. Sure it’s way different from the original layout. I really think with time and positive feedback the new forums will be top notch. At first the change is hard to digest. Give the new forums some time, and explore how the layout works. I’m actually finding it easier to navigate.

I think it’s also important not to point fingers at anyone. Everyone on the forums are taking it in and making sure the best experience possible is implemented. We are all in this together, so lets help one another and make the best experience possible with Pioneer DJ, and the new forum layout with Zendesk. I know all the people on this forum are very knowledgeable, and love Pioneer Gear. If we are all positive and put our energy towards making this the best possible experience then it will be a win win situation.

This forum always has rocked, and I know it will continue to do so. I always enjoy coming to the Pioneer forum for updates, and news on the best DJ gear. I enjoy everyone’s knowledge, and learning from others. Lets make this the best community, and experience possible.

Cheers!!

Thanks everyone for your feedback on the new forums - we'll gather the comments and consider adjustments as necessary.  (As previously noted, we've already changed the password requirements by popular request.)

Other changes are limitations of the software and we hope to have those made by Zendesk in coming months.
