Hey everyone,

The team at Pioneer really appreciate all your feedback and support when it comes to short surveys and shaping the future of product development.

This time, we'd love to hear what you think about the relevance of CD usage.

Please fill out the very short survey here: http://bit.ly/10hOiz0

done!

I couldnt add this to the survey but I only play a cd when a client hands me one for some special song or whatever, would be nice to have the cdj's with no cdrom but make a usb cd rom "in case" we had to play one, just keep a slimline in our bag

I actually pretty much skipped CDs and went from vinyl to USB on CDJ 2000 because it looked like reading vinyl again and I was excited about being able to manage my music a lot more easily and cheaply. The one thing that really irks me is not being able to rearrange the order of a playlist through the CDJ interface. I really want to be able to drag and drop tracks up and down a playlist like I could in a record box. That seems like a simple function to me. I was dumbfounded when i realized that I could only do it on my laptop.

That would be mint! Then I could make a taglist, play it through and sort it out, then save it as a playlist. I would then like to be able to rename the playlist and edit it if needs be. Add To Playlist would be a good function too. So your playlists can be living, changing, things even if you are out with only your USB.

@Roy > As I'm sure you'll understand, there are some limitations on what the players can do in terms of functionality - we're limited with the amount of buttons we have and how many functions can be attributed to each one. Perhaps making use of the Taglist may help.

I think it could be on the menu list and then be controlled by soft keys on the needle bar. There should be more of that. For displaying the alphabet I would only show half and have a skip right/left button for the other half. The search buttons are a bit tight for my fingers (and coordiantion, lol). That could be an option in the setup. There's so much you could do to make these awesomer to use on the fly.

The Menu button isn't even functional when you are in the Taglist window. Surely it could have a move up/down function under it and maybe when you go to save a taglist you could get an option to rename it with soft keys before saving. Also, I think that when you're looking at a playlist and hit Menu you should see options Sort, Move and Rename. Sort opens what you now see under Menu (the sort options). Move grabs the currently highlighted track until you click the dial again at which time it drops it. Rename should show soft keys to rename the playlist. Then it asks if you want to save the changes as you exit the menu. Awesome!

Sure, in theory, its a great idea but actually executing it may or may not be possible. Like I said, I've passed the information / suggestion along to the engineering team.

The optimist in me believes that the engineers who made this thing in the first place must have had these sorts of future expansions in mind. I hope it can be done. Apart from importing and analyzing tracks I would rather spend my time on the decks. Thanks for listening. :)

My opinion is that cdjs should keep the cd usage, otherwise it will only be a usb player or hid control. But also don't forget people still buy/burn cds and  quality of sound is much better than mp3s. So i think since record companies still produce cds the pioneer cdj should be able to play a cd.

Once the CD slot is gone won't it just be a high-end control surface? Guess it really is now, for most people. If they are going to get rid of the CD slot they will have to make sure the system networks to rekordbox on a laptop without errors (you know the one I mean). Then maybe there could be a function to play from the CD drive of the laptop in case someone hands you a request on CD.

@Kiki > This is one of the many avenues Pioneer are distributing the survey.

@Pionix > Short and sweet. But please feel free to give us some feedback on your CD usage here on the boards.

To be honest i think it should be a model option for people,

With cd or without, im sure people would be happy to pay less for something they don't actually need nor want.

Usb is defenitly the way to go now a days but I really think the next cdjs should have a cd drive along with allowing to read actual videos for video mixing. If this option is too expensive to implement then Pioneer should still have a cd drive even though most of us understand that cds will be soon useless in the near future its still a little to early to wipe them out though. So keep the cd drives on the next cdjs make sure that the usb option is near perfect and then the following cdjs after that could be all 3.0 usb no cd drive but allow a plug in option like mentioned above.

I like the idea of making it video capable. Then the slot is a DVD drive. Cool and maintains a reason to buy a player.

I pretty much skipped over the whole CD thing as well. And went from Vinyl to USB. Although I have only used a CD 2-3 times to play some tunes while i was doing something else besides djing. I'm not sure How I would feel if it didn't have that feature?? I know Im NOT a controller lover. And wouldn't that be what it is without a CD slot? Although it's a controller now... LOL It's a whole mental thing with me I guess? I guess in reality, I don't use the CD feature, so why would I need it?? But lets fix RB first before we get too crazy... Tell mixvibes to stop messing with dj app's for the IPad that know one cares about, or will use. And put the time and energy into fixing RB and letting us use the cdj's to scroll and select our tunes on the computer instead of just the cdj.

Well.. I've stopped playing with CDs since past half-year. So nowadays I am just using USB sticks as most venues are migrating to CDJs with this functionality.

In my point of view, CD/DVD slot just makes sense for VDJs. Would love to see a CDJ 2000-like without the CD slot, slimmer, etc!

And I am completely with DJ Pete: Pioneer must start improving and invest more into their software (firmwares and mostly, rekordbox) for now. We are highly dependent into these softwares now to be able to DJ to organize our collections and there is a big room for improvements there!

Although I don't use cd's. I know a lot of House Dj's that still use CD's. Chicago House and soulfoul dj's are not giving up cd's anytime soon. Many of the feel that since Vinyl is a thing of the past, CD's are the closet thing they can get to it. So then spend hrs buring cd's and printing labels out for each cd,,, It's pretty impressive if you have ever done it? Or seen it before?? Books and books of perfectly labeled and organized cd's... Just like we had our vinyl back in the day. For me.... Organizing tunes in RB takes long enough. LOL This is a message for you Pioneer.... There is no need to keep pushing fwd with DJ gear.... Your gonna push yourself out of the market... Take a page out of Panosonic/Technics, and sell your CDJ nexus for a long time... Perfect the s/w.. Let these players be the 1200's of the NOW dj world. These players can make you money in the dj market for 10yrs... Slow down, and let the young djs growing up now know that...... They have to buy Pioneer CDJ 2000 Nexus to have the industry standard... Just like some of us did back in the day with the 1200's... Not like it is today when every other day (it seems) they is new gear and the young djs hold off from buying gear because it changes so much... And they end up wasting money on lessor dj gear, instead of saving up for the industry standard that they know has been around for more then 2 yrs... And will be around for years to come.

DJ Pete's on fire right now. I've mentioned this a few times on the forums - I'd HAPPILY pay for RB software or updates (just as I would with any OS) if it meant maximizing the potential of my $10k hardware investment. The incremental cost would be a rounding error! Sadly, many of the features that set Pio's hardware apart from its competitors are inhibited by the software and/or firmware - what we're left with [that's 100% reliable] when it all washes out are the fundamental features of the system. This is an unfortunate symptom of a seemingly flawed business model. If RB becomes a revenue generator instead of a cost center, I guarantee it gets a whole lot more attention at the corp level, and all these problems get solved. Fast. Think about it, every update to RB is pure cost to Pio - no direct return on investment, only indirect through hardware sales. If I'm a decision maker and I find that allocating resources (i.e., $) to improving RB doesn't move the needle on my hardware sales, but selling a white version does, guess what goes in my budget. I suppose what I'm trying to say is, Pioneer, either take my money and bring Rekordbox to its full potential or merge with Traktor already and have them do it for you.

I agree too, A much as I love the Nexus decks and RB combo, If it were as stable and user friendly as Serato, Traktor, etc.... it would be a lot more popular. I work with and get calls from a lot of dj's who ask me questions knowing I use this stuff and know it in and out and their biggest complaint is RB unfortunately and how they cannot stand it and just stick with cheaper cdj's with serato :(

Rekordbox feels like Pioneer building a Ferrari F1 and then offering Mr Bean as the pit manager.

LOL THANKS FOX. JUST GIVING MY OPINION. I REALLY THING THESE NEW PLAYERS CAN BE THE 1200'S OR THERE TIME IF THEY STOP FOR A SEC AND FIX THE S/W, AND STOP TRYING TO ASK US ABOUT WHAT THE NEXT THING SHOULD BE? LETS GET THIS FIXED FIRST... LET THIS MARINATE IN THE MARKET AND BECOME "TRULY" THE INDUSTRY STANDARD... YOU CAN'T CALL SOMETHING THE INDUSTRY STANDARD WHEN ITS BRAND NEW AND NOT IN ALL THE CLUBS... BY THE TIME MOST OF THE "REGULAR" CLUBS GET AROUND TO UPGRADING THERE PLAYERS, THERE ARE NEW PLAYERS COMING OUT. I THINK THAT IS WHY WE SEE CONTROLLERS TAKING OVER... CAUSE CLUB OWNERS ARE  NOT GONNA DROP 10K IN NEW GEAR EVERY 3-4YRS... NOT EVERY CLUB IS A SUPER CLUB. I SEE CDJ2000'S BEING USED AS TABLES FOR CONTROLLERS NOW... BUT IF THESE PLAYERS WERE ALLOWED TO HAVE A 6-8YR RUN, WHERE EVERYONE KNEW THAT THIS IS IT... THIS IS THE PLAYER... THIS IS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD... I THINK PIONEER IN THE LONG RUN WOULD HAVE MORE SALES.. NOT JUST FROM DJS, BUT THE CLUBS WOULD INVEST AS WELL. CAUSE NOW THEY WOULD KNOW THAT THE 10K THEY JUST DROPPED IS GOOD FOR 8YRS. I THINK THAT IS A SAFE INVESTMENT.. AND PIONEER FORGETS.... WE CAN STILL ROCK A CLUB WITH 12OO'S AND SOME CONTROL VINYL. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TAKE A PAGE OUT OF THAT BOOK? YOU CAN COME OUT WITH CDJ 2000 NEXUS PLAYERS IN ALLLLL TYPES OF COLORS AND THEME'S FOR YRS TO KEEP THE PRODUCT FRESH AND ALWAYS IN THE BUYERS EYE... YOU DON'T NEED TO COME OUT WITH A NEW PLAYER EVERY 3YRS... ESPECIALLY WHEN THE PLAYERS ARE NOT 100% WHAT YOU SAY THEY ARE... THE CDJ 2000'S STILL HAVE ISSUES WITH THE MASTER TEMPO... THOSE GUYS GOT SCREWED... STOP SCREWING YOUR LOYAL FOLLOWERS. APPRECIATE US AND GIVE US WHAT YOU SAY YOUR GIVING US... YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT WE WILL PAY THE GODLY AMOUNT YOU CHARGE... NOW GIVE US WHAT WE PAID FOR. THAT MY 2 CENTS!!!
