[SOLVED] RMX-1000 Levels

Hi Forum

Having much trouble setting levels between my DJM700 and RMX-1000. Having consulted the forum in detail i have followed the following steps:-

Set S/R to twelve o'clock
Set line levels on mixer to appropriate (just over 0 and into amber) and equalled on master out.
With S/R off i have matched input levels on RMX-1000
With BPF echo enabled on RMX-1000 but running dry unaffected signal through the RMX-1000 i have matched the output level (this sets my line levels fine-happy days!)

4.On S/R engage and disengage i then see noticeable drop in master out (help!) once line levels are set-surely this shouldn't happen.? I now can't change channel without audible drop in master volume and a major sticking point???

I can circumvent above through increasing mixer level/depth knob to 6 o'clock, or, alternatively adjusting the RMX levels but this screws my line levels and leading to clipping on effects. The only joy i've had is setting RMX input to about 3'oclock and output just shy of 12o'clock but i have to turn my mixer gains on line levels quite low and this still results in +4 on my lines and clipping once full effects applied-it is very loud when effects applied!

In my mind the above steps should result in everything being in keeping, i.e. line levels = rmx-1000 input/output=master out; this is certainly something assured in other posts but not getting it i'm afraid??? Both my RMX input/output is about 12 o'clock currently and reading other DJM owners this should result in no audible difference between S/R on and off-is this something up with my mixer?

Point to note i'm using reasonable short high quality trs cables but have not tried alternatives.

Hey Dan! For best results set ur RMX input/output to 12:30 so it's just lightly above the 12 mark- I've used it with the DJM600/700/750/800/850/900 & 2000 mixers with that setting and never had a drop in master output if i engage and disengage the send/return from the FX processor. I think you might have a problem with the cable- cause Pioneer mixers by default if there is no signal coming from the right it'll make the Left channel mono (it's kinda a fail safe system). Not sure if that applies to your setup- I use everything with 1/4" Jack to 1/4" Jack to connect the audio- others use the RCA-Jack connectors with no issues either. Ohhh have u checked the signal level switch on the back of the RMX?

Otherwise make sure you update to the latest firmware for the RMX1000 as initially there was an audio level issue with the BPF Echo (about a year & 1/2 ago got fixed). Try that out let us know- we'll try and figure it out for ya

Alas!

Points noted as follows:-

Firmware up-to-date (first thing i did!)

2.Using 1/4" jacks across send return inputs/outputs.

Signal level switch to send/return (-10db)

Think there is a definate connection issues! If i run single mono (lefts) from RMX to corresponding on my mixer it eradicates the issue with S/R working proper when on/off and no audible difference on the master. Mixer is on mono mode. I have switched the cables around in this configuration and everything working fine so assume cables are fine! Question now is what connection is dodge? Next steps as follows:-

Leads on coming from left (mono) on RMX (both input and output). Fed these into Send (right) and Return (right)-problem returns! I'm assuming at this point it must be either dodgy Send (right) or Return (right) on mixer?
Starting with Return (right ) i then removed and plugged into Return (left) and all fine!

Does this indicate my Return (right) is dodgy or am i missing something?

Alternatively what is correct procedure to establish which one of the eight connectors across both units have snuffed it. Service job in any case i guess?

Hi,

Having bought some 1/4" to RCA leads today and running RMX-1000 I've established it wasn't the mixer.. On this basis it stems from a faulty input (right) and/or output (right) 1/4" connection on the RMX-1000 and the unit will need to service in due course, although not preventing me using it as planned in the meantime.

Hey Dan- so it was from the RMX 1/4" ... usually can get damaged if the lead is in contact with something in ur set-up- I saw one guy use the lead as a stand to balance it on a table edge. His eventually went bust as well- the RCA solution is prob better and lighter on the stand as well. cheers man
