Latency w/ CDJ400s + Traktor
Hi guys,
I've owned a pair of CDJ400s for about a year now and have only just got down to really trying to have a go with them and a copy of Traktor Duo (1). I'm using the NI Audio 2 DJ to output my mac's audio to an external mixer and the CDJ400s as HID controllers.
My issue is that I get quite a lot of latency in Traktor using my CDJs, most noticeably just with the cue and play buttons but also the jog wheel being super laggy. The cue buttons obviously make it hugely difficult to beatmatch CDJ-style as I basically have to take the lag into account when cuing up a track, which makes for a really artificial sense of rhythm I don't want to have!
I hadn't had much trouble with this setup before other than occasionally with USB hubs not powering the controllers enough to be recognised (this isn't often a problem now, I bought a slightly more powerful hub). I've got all the latest drivers installed, I use an aggregate for the Audio 2DJ together with both of the CDJs.
What could be causing this latency and how might I go about trying to reduce it? I don't remember it being this bad the last time I used these decks.

No, asio4all (if that's what you mean?) is for PCs only as far as I'm aware, for macs you just set up an aggregate device with both CDJs going through it. I'm not aware of another way of doing this, and I should stress that they work fine, just with a lot of latency.

The problem is the players are not connecting via HID but rather as MIDI devices and as such there is an inherent latency between the players and the software. If you use the CDJs with Serato Scratch Live, you'll notice there is no latency (as they use HID mode to connect to SSL) and can thus draw the conclusion that the problem is really a lack of proper support for the players within Traktor.

Apologies, I clearly didn't know what I was talking about. Didn't get the difference between HID and MIDI. Fair enough, I just remember them responding quicker when I first set everything up a while ago and I don't know why I would have opted for Traktor if they were so incompatible with 400s, I watched a bunch of videos of DJs seeming to favour the setup.
Serato sounds cool but I've already shelled out the money for my Audio 2DJ and Traktor, I'm kind of eager to jump into practicing and worrying about MORE gear and software further down the line. Is there nothing you can think of keeping the setup I currently have that might reduce latency?

@Callum > The best thing you could do would be to ensure that your audio settings are to their lowest latency possible to have the least delay between control and result. You can find some info on the NI website about optimizing your computer for DJ use.

thanks Pulse, I'll have a nose and get back to you when I've tried everything. This mac is slower than a tortoise these days anyway so it will be a good excuse for a clean up.
