[CLOSED] Introducing Rekord Buddy - A Syncing tool for Rekordbox

Hey guys,

I hope it's ok to post this in here, it might hopefully be useful to some of you.

I'm writing a program to sync your Traktor database with your Rekordbox database. Track info, beatmarkers, playlists, everything can be exported from Traktor over to Rekordbox.

This is currently in beta and at a point where I need more people to start using it and point out problems or suggestions.

You can download the latest version from my Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/DamienSirkis

Keep in mind it is not ready for prime time yet but will hopefully get there with your help.

Thanks!

Damien Sirkis

Damien, I'm going to leave it for now but please provide people with a direct link to the download rather than requiring a "like" on Facebook.

Please note that this is not a Pioneer supported tool and it is to be used at your own risk.

Pioneer reserves the right to remove the link and/or this thread at any time.

I dont see anything worng with him asking for a like for us to use his software for free. Sounds like a pretty good deal for me :)

Can this sync hot cues too?

There is a diabolic scheme behind the 'likes' but it's not what people would think :)

I announce updates thru my FB page so that way, everyone who 'likes' the page gets automatic update news in their news feed.

Having said that, yes it does support converting Traktor markers but for now those are only converted to memory cue points in rekordbox and not hot cues. The question is how to select which markers in Traktor become hot cues and which don't.

Give me some feedback as to how you would see this work better and I can look into adding the feature.

can your software go from rekordbox to tractor data? or just the other way around

The current version only supports syncing from Traktor to Rekordbox.

I am collecting feedback to see what users want in future versions, like syncing with iTunes also for example.

Rekord Buddy is up to version 0.94RC1. We are feature locked and on the way to the 1.0 release.

Time to hit me up with any post 1.0 feature requests :)

@Charles > And it wouldn't be a matter of asking a friend with a Mac to do it either; the database is not able to migrate between PC and Mac because of the differences in file-folder structures.  Sorry!

Pulse - you just read my mind.  I was just considering that =D

How did I miss this - brilliant idea. Will download tomorrow and give it a shot. Find myself using traktor more and more these days, sharing cue point would be ideal! I presume it relies on beat grids being identical?

Actually the only thing it relies on is the location of the track on your hard drive. That's how it matches entries in the Traktor and Rekordbox DB.

Everything else, like beat markers and other meta-data is synced on the fly.

Damien, this sounds like an AMAZING software that you've got going. I am definitely going to give it a download when I get my new Macbook Pro in a couple of days. The only question I have is, does the beatgrid on traktor sync into Rekordbox so the quantized loops and effects stay relevant on CDJ's and a DJM 900? Also, I think you should make it so that Rekordbox just takes hotcues 2, 3, 4 from Traktor and places them in A, B, C respectively due to the fact that Traktor stores hotcue #1 as the beatmarker. Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words Luke.

To answer your question, yes, it converts the entire beat grid and beat markers/loops over to RB.

Currently it does not map anything to the hot cues in RB but one idea moving forward it to allow users to map any field to any field while syncing so this could be implemented that way. Stay tuned :)

That would be sick! When are you anticipating a release on this bad boy?

Just wanted to let anybody know that I dedicated a thread to Rekord Buddy alone on the DJ Tech Tools forum as I would like to hear what people who have used it think about it or whatever they may have to discuss about Damien's genius idea!

@ Damien... would love to see the same for Serato <-> Rekordbox.  Great idea mate... well done.

@el-ricardo Since this is not Pioneer related, I won't go into details here but we have a lot planned post v1.0 depending on the level of interest.

My FB is the best place to keep an eye on for this.

Hey guys,

Rekord Buddy v1.0 is now available on the Mac App Store. I'm not going to post a link per forum rules but it's should be fairly easy to find there.

Any questions or comments, please go to Next Audio Labs' forums as I don't want to bug Pulse or Gavin with this stuff.

Thanks and enjoy!

Hey Zeus,

It's Mac only at this time.

I'm not posting a link per the forums ToS but we're doing a survey right now to find out what Rekord Buddy users want the most. The more Windows users weight in, the more likely I am to buy a PC and look into it :)

Great work, Damien!  You put my library XML perl scripts to shame;)  Keep up the good work...

HI Damien,

Somebody mentioned on another thread about sync issues with the CDJ2000Nexus that they use Traktor for beatgridding as it does a much more accurate job in conjunction with Rekordbuddy - how easy is this exactly as i'd like to test it out if straight forward?

Traktor does store more digits of precision in its grids and cues. Keep in mind, though, that once you convert this to Rekord Buddy that extra precision is rounded up/down.

In other words, using Traktor to beatgrid doesn't make Rekordbox more precise, it only makes your collection data more precise.

Finally, and to be fair, I do all my gridding in Rekordbox as the extra precision is not noticeable for me.

Hope this helps.

I meant "once you convert this to REKORDBOX", not Rekord Buddy....

Hi Damien !

I use VirtualDj when I dont use RB, and I use PC as many other djs.

Would it be possible to convert from that program in a forward release.

I could provide you with my XML database..
