help organising playlists

guys anyone got any ideas on how to get a bit of structure into my rb db? I'm a bit of a RB newb to be honest

was thinking about playlists by key and energy level, ie 1a - 6 1a - 7 1a - 8 1a - 9 1b - 6 and so on

what are good practices? what has worked for you? toyed with the genre idea but reckon that would be a bit hard to manage when updating with new tracks

i want to be able to batch select stuff and add to that playlist

Hey Zeus, I keep my tracks organised into playlists on my HDD - each playlist has its own folder. So when I buy new tracks I sort them into their respective playlist folder on my HDD and make a note of which folders I've updated with new tracks. Then in rekordbox I select the playlist I want to update and drag and drop the entire folder contents into the playlist. Rekordbox identifies duplicate tracks and asks if you want to skip them... when you click 'skip' it only imports the new tracks. I find it really easy to manage everything this way. I rarely even look at the collection pane any more unless I want to search my whole collection for a track during a set.

I also use Traktor and follow a similar process with that software.

The other bonus with this method is if you somehow lose your rb database or accidentally delete a playlist etc, all you have to do is drag/drop each folder back into a playlist - you haven't suddenly lost all of your hard work sorting tracks into playlists.

@Zeus > We're going to publish some more official videos on adopted practices from different DJs around the world on how they organise their music. These videos will be coming out continuously over the next few months.
