Even if I then Import from Contents and analyze, guess what, I still lose the waveform and meta data. NOTHING works anymore. How did this pass QA?

Losing Waveform / metadata because rekordbox copies to "Contents" doesn't use original file location (which it should because that would make sense)
I have my files organized by year / month like so:
/externalhd/2013/05/track1, track2 etc.
When Importing with rekordbox, it makes a copy into
/externalhd/Contents
So then when creating a playlist it uses this secondary location (Contents - even when drag and dropping from my "Collection" - which is the ORIGINAL LOCATION to playlist - it's now in "Contents") and it has no metadata / waveform / etc. It's still with the original location.
What gives? Why can I not control this in the settings. This wasn't always the case, but now it's a huge obstacle to use rekordbox and the CDJs!
Terrible, terrible software design.

I recommend you use Tag & Rename, foobar2000 or mp3tag for tagging. If you have WAV files and know how to write commands I recommend foobar2000 - but wait for 1.2.7 which will include a bug fix regarding WAV files.
I don't understand why we can not copy our files to our USB with a file commander and Pioneer let us run a batch program over the USB which creates or updates his database with the required things.
btw: Serato saves the waveforms into the files.

@Adam > rekordbox, as I understand it, needs to create a type of portable database to be able to tag and store information (waveforms, BPM information, hot cues / loops, memory cues, sort information) to particular file formats that it supports. There is no one standard way of tagging sort information to MP3s / AIFFs / WAVs - rekordbox creates that ability.

But some information like waveforms could be written as ID3 tag information into the files. When we re-create the library we needn't re-create all the waveforms.
Is it also possible that files without a waveform will not be copied to the external device?
Yesterday I've added ~100 files to my library but couldn't wait anymore to finish the analyzing, selected all tracks to copy them to the device (external USB harddisc) but noticed that only a few (A-M) have been copied - only the analyzed files. So I couldn't play all new files from N-Z last night.

@mp3backup > No, it couldn't. WAV / AIFF / MP3 don't all support ID3 tags so there needs to be some customised method to tag the information to the tracks.
You can copy over unanalysed tracks by simple drag-n-drop in Folder view (not within rekordbox).

WAV/AIFF support ID3 tags ... RIFF is an open format and the sub-chunk "id3 " is a de-facto standard used by Serato, Tag & Rename, foobar2000, Wavelab 8 and I'm sure there are more on the market or will be soon.
ID3 has customized frames - Serato is doing the same.
