[OPEN] Can't import playlists from rekordbox to rekordbox

0) Have you read the "READ ME FIRST" thread in its entirety AND TRIED THE SOLUTIONS THERE before posting: Yes, I swear it!

1) Operating System:Windows 8.1

2) OS Type: 64bit

3) rekordbox version: 3.0.0 rev 2369-3280

4) Using LINK: No

** 4a) LINK Connection method*: N/A

*
4b) Using with CDJs*: N/A

**5) Hard drive / Flash drive / SD card file system
: FAT32

*
5a) Does the device have multiple partitions*: No

*
5b) If it's a flash drive, is it a U3 device*: Yes

*
5c) With what utility did you format the device*: Other, GUIFORMAT

**6) Have you scanned your files for errors
: Yes

**7) Have you scanned your drive for errors
: Yes

**8) Is rekordbox crashing at all
: No

*
8a) If crashing, is it resulting in*: N/A

*
8b) If not crashing, are there any error messages*: N/A

**9) Are you able to repeat / reproduce the problem
: Yes

*
9a) If yes, can you do it consistently*: Yes

**10) Does the problem occur with one specific song:
* No

10a) If yes, please post a link to it: N/A

11) Any other notes regarding your setup only: N/A

12) Provide as much detail of the issue here:

"Whenever I try to import a playlist from one computer to another (both are mine), I just get an error saying:

Cannot import the playlist: <playlist name>.

All songs in the list do not exist in Collection or the list is empty."

Note that playlist name is the name of the playlist I'm trying to import.

Now, the wierd thing is that the collection is identical to the collection of the computer from which the playlist was exported and the playlists do work on the cdjs, so I doubt the list has any errors.

This happens for every playlist I try to import and no matter what computer I try to import to and export from.

Can it really be, that I can't import my own playlists? This would really be a huge nuisance, as one would have to start all over, when switching to a new computer for running rekordbox when playing...

Best regards,

Rasmus

@Pulse, I had written on here about a year ago and the issue hasn't been resolved. I would really like to switch computers but this program is so far the only thing preventing me. Can you please address this?

I can't even backup and restore computer to computer (mac to mac). I used to be able to with 2.x versions, but since I upgraded doesn't work anymore. I can still backup and restore on the SAME mac, but can't do it from mac to mac, and the 2 macs are very similar (including operating system). I've tried every idea out there I feel like --even replacing the rekordbox folder in user/libraries/pioneer in the new computer to make it identical to the old one....no such luck. I had just posted about this in another thread - do you have any other suggestions to how I can restore my library? kind of scary to think that if my main computer crashes I can't even restore any of my work in my collection to my new one.

Ok, first of ll it's not a personal rant but there are a few observations.

1) the laptop DOES see all the tracks in the list. e.g. all names
of my usb stick and in the right sequence.

2) the tracks are on the USB stick itself

So the only thing the program needs to do is to match the list with the contents. Now, obviously the fastest way is to have an unique identifier (metadata plus for instance a simple md5sum). When done, it could copy over the tracks and we're all set.

And yes, finally the real anser is "it hasn't been a priority".

Bottom line is that Pioneer doesn't really listen to requests so it seems.

It's like the wake function fail when an USB stick is in the player. Linux does the simple step -- remember a device was mounted; remember where it was mounted (e.g. save the full state); umounts the device and sleeps.

Now Pioneer players enter the 4 hour mark, sees there is still an open device and what does it do? yeps. does not go asleep. This is DJM850, DJM900NXS. Probably on all players. This is what we call a bug.

However, theer is no way we could fill in a bugzilla report, add it ourselves to a system.
The only way is mention it to where we bought the stuff. And hopefully they understand what it is and forward to Pioneer. Hopefully the people getting the report understand what it is and forward it to engineers.

Look at the wake function fail of a certain range of DJM900NXS mixers... Even after a year no official Pioneer sent fix has been available. Luckily the Dutch company that repairs Pioneer stuff have a few people working that understand that if there is a problem they at least should search for a fix.

The bottom line is that customers, like me, paying several months wortyh of working to Pioneer, are put in the cold.

So if I currently need to import a playlist I need to recreate them by remaking them manually..... really. 4500EURos I paid. and nothing whatsoever is being fixed; I can't even send a bug report to the people who could be able to fix things...

Makes me sad, makes me mad. Makes me think that Pioneer does not have the right mind when it comes to customers. Maybe I need to change my name to a big DJ or so before something gets fixed....

The fact taht plenty people have asked for it and the priority is low is exactly what Pioneer is. Releasing a white player as a new product after black and silver have been released. That's important work. Keeping people happy is not something they do. -- does not generate revenue.

sigh

I found an easy solution for that problem:

copy your contents folder from the rekordbox usb device to your "new" computers harddisk.

Than save the playlists/informations from your usb device via rekordbox to your "new" harddisk (you have to do that one by one)

Now You can import the playlists alltogether to rekordbox again.

Wait till all tracks are analysed.

Close rekordbox. pull out your usb stick/device and restart rekordbox.

Now use 'Display All Missing Files' to relocate Your data.

Pain in the ass but worked out for me.

Enjoy

This is such bunk. Been a year now and I can't work on a mix on my laptop and transfer that mix to my computer that I have connected to my NXS2 setup. Really regretting my decision to shell out the dough for the Pioneer setup. It's been so much more of a hassle than anything I ever had to deal with using Traktor or Serato. I can see the mix on my computer that is stored on my cell phone with all the cues and everything, but can't just pull the list up to my computer's playlist or each track down to the linked decks, also can't record using rekordbox anymore if I choose to just do the mix from my phone. Even though I have all the mix on my laptop on my computer.

Pioneer, please just go back to having stand alone record players, CDJs, and mixers. Keep the digital DJ stuff in the hands of people that know how to do it. You don't seem to understand that different people may have a different idea of how they want their workflows to operate and you do not place any sort of a priority of trying to help people achieve their desired workflow, but instead want to force everyone to use what your idea of workflow should be.

Anthony,

it's a painful way of seeing that Pioneer is not listeing to the customers.

They add fancy stuff like adding a silver or while player to the list of

devices. Theo do not fix bugs. In fact, it's almost impossible (if at all) to

connect to someone who has a lead to the people who develop.
It sucks. Really. If the developers cannot fix this I would suggest to flly open source rekordbox and have it fixed by people who can.

@Roeland > The database does not allow this kind of procedure -- it's not that Pioneer isn't listening, it's simply not capable within the current structure of the software.

Open-sourcing software is not the solution.
