DDJ SX Pitch Lights and Platter Display issue

On firmware 1.0 I had an issue where the platter lights would be solid and didn't move around when you play a track.

Reboot the controller and all would work as it's meant to, so great but not ideal.

Upgraded the Firmware to the new one and now on the occasional boot the platter lights will not move around but they will (almost like) beat to the music and flash!

Rebooting the controller will sort this, again not ideal.

Also the Pitch lights do not illuminate when adjusting the pitch slider.

I have read about the FX buttons not lighting up and the Pio person replied saying that it may have been missed in the mapping. Did they also miss the pitch lights?

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Other than that, great mixer. Nice to be back using a Pio after a dreaded encounter with the Denon DN MC6000 (now sold!)

(I apologise if this is posted in the wrong place, I couldn't find a forum for the DDJ SX)

This could be the very reason the ddj-sx is delayed here in the uk

There's obviously a few issues which have been overlooked ???

Always the same with anything new
There's always teething problem

Maybe. It's a cracking bit of kit. Just a shame a couple of very simple things have been overlooked which imo shouldn't happen.

PIONEER!

Any news on this?

I called the uk support line today and spoke to Barry Ross who told me to email him the issues with the platter lights and pitch arrow lights. i never got a reply telling me he got the email, hopefully i got his address right.

I have seen Pulse reply to other DDJ SX problems but not mine

@Gilbz > The attitude is not necessary.  You first posted 8 days ago and while yes, I had replied to other threads, I simply missed yours -- I'm sorry.  I don't know if you're a regular to the forums, but we get over 180,000 hits and over 4000 new posts per month, so it's hard to keep up with EVERY post.

The pitch lights are only for use when you switch between decks (1/3, 2/4) so you are guided to the "software pickup" of the pitch on that deck.

As for the jog illumination, I watched the video and I would say that if the illuminations worked properly on boot-up and when the player goes into "screen saver", there could be a communication issue.  If you've updated to firmware 1.01 (http://pioneerdj.com/support/product.php?c=1483&lang=en&p=DDJ-SX&t=179) and still have problems, you may consider taking it back to your retailer for exchange (if under their return policy), otherwise you'll need to send it to Pioneer for repair.

@djmark74 > The delays are due to allocation and shipping.

I apologise if my last post was a bit off but to be fair I've had absolutely no response what so ever from Pioneer.

I've spoken to the Pioneer Tech guy who  didn't even know the controller or any of it's features. Surely he should have the basic of knowledge or pass me onto someone who has?

He gave me his email address so he could pass my queries onto someone who has used the unit, but I've had no reply from him. Don't even know if he got my email. No acknowledgement!

Getting more response from the Serato forum!

I'm going to call the retailer but as there is a lack of stock in the UK, will I get an exchange before the Xmas gigs? Probably not!!

I am a new member here but have been using Pioneer gear for around 10 years

@Gilbz > Understood -- but you didn't comment on my statements above re: the display.  Does it illuminate properly on boot / "screen save"?

Pioneer DDJSSX Jog Wheels  -  Is it true that you have to touch the jog wheels upon starting up the DDJSx to calibrate them to perform better or is this a rumor too?

This unit is nice but out of the box it takes a lot of tweaking to perform to a cdj feel. I understand its a different technology but cdj's set the bar high . As a owner of 2 CDJ 1000's,1- Pioneer DDJS1, 1 - Pioneer DJM 909, Pioneer HDJ 1000, Pioneer CDJ 850, and now Pioneer DDJSX . I'm not feeling the consistency with the jog wheel?

Thank you,

I have hope.

Hi Pulse

Yes all upgraded to new firmware and software and still the same.

The SX works perfectly, no other issues apart from this starting up problem

Appreciated Gavin

Barry Ross (Pioneer Tech support UK) said he would get back to me on the 13th November, so glad I didn't hold my breathe!  ;-)

@Gilbz > I apologise on his behalf. They cover all the Pioneer products so its a little difficult for them to be versed 100% with every product. I've raised a ticket with the engineers - I'll reply once I hear back.

Thank you again Gavin.

I think I caught the guy out to be honest as he was telling me to try something that the SX can't do.

It's such a shame the guys don't have any basic understanding about a unit before it hits the shelves.

I await your reply!

Response from the engineers:

"This issue may be caused by the Serato DJ side and already reported to Serato. The frequency of occurrence has been very low and trigger events have been hard to narrow down so it has been difficult to replicate the problem in order to fix it.

Pioneer will keep an eye on this problem."

thanks Gavin

shame i can't get a uk pioneer tech to look at my set up. i can reproduce this error whenever i please.

it would help them or Serato narrow it down quicker! i'm going to try another laptop soon so i'll report back if it's down to system spec.

cheers again for reporting back ;)
