For the most part I like the DDJ SX from a hardware standpoint. I still find Serato DJ rather lacking in comparison to Traktor, except for the video plugin which would be great if I owned a mac.
My only complaint about the unit is the lack of FX on the microphone and external inputs. I've spent several hours researching 3rd party FX units, which may give me FX on my mic, but probably not the ability to record using the DDJ SX.
This is really a sore spot for me and renders it un-useable for gigs...so for now it's sitting in the box in my closet. I guess my question is whether the lack of microphone/external input FX is a problem with the software that can be fixed with an update, or a “hard wired” oversight of the DDJ SX itself which can’t be remedied? Because if it’s the latter I may as well eBay this paper weight.

It seems effects on the microphone wasn't in that big demand and was omitted from the hardware. It may be possible to include via a software change but there won't be a dedicated hardware button. Ultimately, including that functionality is up to Serato.
