Pioneer DDJ-SX... Right for me?

Hey Everyone... Ive been djing for about 16 years... Nothing major... I stopped and sold off my equipment (cdj 800s) i love Pioneer and their build quality. I want the ddj-sx but ive always played records or cds. Is it a lot to learn going to a controller? I keep hearing about midi mapping and stuff... I have no idea what that is or how i would use it lol... Am i getting in over my head here? I mostly play house, hip hop, trance, and old school.... Im looking to get a little creative with my sets but dont want spend all this money getting back into something, only to find its too different from what i already know.... Help???

Hi Bill,

I think Pioneer DDJ SX is currently best choice for you if you are switching from CDJs to controller. It should be an easy switch for you. It is the best controller on the market.

I have been playing CDs as well, than I have switched to Pioneer XDJ Aero but I didn't like it. I am waiting now 3rd week for my Pioneer DDJ SX and I can't wait.

If you somehow find you are missing CDJs or turntables you can always connect them to you DDJ SX, but I guarantee that you will soon see how comfortable it is to have all you music on laptop. You can quickly search for tunes and you have waveform - things you can't have playing from CDs.

Did you ever consider Traktor scratch? You could be playing files from laptop, have all the advantages of it but control them with turntables.

Hello and thank you for responding. I have been researching the traktor vs serato battle and i think traktor might be a little bit better, but im in love with the ddjsx and i think serato can fulfill my needs at the moment. I didnt realize the ddjsx was so hard to get! I think my mind is made up. Im going to go with the ddjsx. Thank you so much for the feedback!

Good choice!

If you don't like Serato you can always use the DDJ SX with Traktor as well! It is called MIDI mapping!

Don't worry! You will just need to download the map file from internet and select that file in traktor. It may be required to update Firmware in the controller but it is very easy and Pioneer provides a suitable instuctions. Pioneer should also provide soon tutorial videos of installing the map.

I'm not sure where you are but you will probably need to wait at least 3 weeks for your gear so don't wait long with ordering!

@Bill Collins

If you'd like to run Traktor with your DDJ-SX heres a fairly decent mapping, created by Viper9711. I would recemmend it...if you're like me and not well versed on creating you're own midi maps.  https://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/851

If you're new to controllers...or using Serato or Traktor...be prepared for a little learning curve with the hardware and software.  I hated Traktor and my controller for the first few months, but now after almost 2 years using my DDJ-T1 I love it...
