ddj- sb controller mutes my sound

Noob DJ here

Once I plug in my mixer my sound mutes...I plugged in my speakers rca cables to my controller (the speakers audio output to the controllers master out)... I later turned the master level knob all the way and I can barely here my music playing (the crossfader is all the way to the channel the song is playing, and the channel volume is all the way up) I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong here because the controller works fine...the speakers barely play music but the subwoofer is not doing anything. the speakers audio input is connected to my laptop's headphone plug in (how i normally have it when I play games or listen to music). help please
