[CLOSED] Feature Request: Shortcut to SEARCH.

Does anyone else feel that the SEARCH function would be more useful if there was shortcut that would immediately bring up the menu?  I often find myself pressing BACK repeatedly just so I can access the SEARCH feature.  This wastes time and it would make sense (to me at least) if there was a button combination that instantly brought up the SEARCH menu.  I browsed the manual but didn't find what I was looking for.  Your thoughts?

This isn't a bad idea, I think it could be usefull to use but a little hard to implement at the momment. I believe when you go to the "Info" on a track you're able to select the artist, track, bpm, album, key etc. and you will emidiately go to the function you selected and search of similar items. I'm not sure if you knew that but it might help temporarily.

I personally would like to be able to see the current position "white bar" in the waveform while using the "Search" mode. After loading a track in the "Search" mode, you must tab over to the "Info" mode in order to see the position of the track in the wave.

Those are my thoughts, lets hear what others think of you're feature idea. And in order to implement this, you should e-mail Pioneer at the right side of this page and pass along your thoughts for future updates.

I'm aware of the functionality of the INFO button but it doesn't really address the issue of having to page back through many menus just to begin using the touch strip to search by characters.  I'm going to send a detailed suggestion to Pioneer when I get enough free time.  I am thinking something like holding down the BROWSE button while simultaneously touching the NEEDLE SEARCH strip would be a good way to instantly jump to SEARCH mode.

@ Lossless > Correct it does not create a "Search" shortcut.

What would take so long and what kind of details would you need to send to ask the engineers to implement this in a future update? Just take a couple minutes, put it in point form, suggest your shortcut method, then leave it up to the engineers. Done.

I was about to request this same feature but searched first and found this thread. This is how this function should be implemented imo.

Press-hold the 'browse' button to pop-up search option list.

options: search locally (within current folder/playlist) or search globally (entire collection).

Scroll and click to select search option, then search window opens, perform search.

Then the 'back' button will return you to the previous folder/playlist.

We'll pass this along as a suggestion to the engineers.  Thanks for your feedback.

I agree, navigating back to search takes a lot of time which is affecting the usability.

Please note that while there are plenty of great ideas floating around, and many people say "Yeah, that's awesome!", not everything is capable within the current hardware / software and may not be possible to be implemented.  Hopefully the engineers can figure out a way of making it work but don't be disappointed if features and suggestions don't get added.

@Pulse - Have you seen or heard word of a new revision of the CDJ-2000? Mark 1, 2? I want to pick up another 2 (for a total of 4) but don't want to be out of date in a month or 2

@Moto Mike > Sorry but theres no talk/rumours allowed of future products. Pioneer doesn't release any information about products until it's official release. But here is what Pulse would say:

"If you need one now, buy it, there will always be another newer, better, shinier model somewhere down the pipeline, but we don't have any information to give regarding any new product releases ... ever, even if one were being announced tomorrow."

Thanks,

Foster

Would also be interested in this Shortcut Feature. I hope that the engineers do find a way for us :-)

@Moto Mike > I'll let you answer your own question; do you think Apple are working on the iPhone 5 or iPad 3? Of course they are. Are Pioneer working on a new piece of equipment? Of course we are. When will it be released? Perhaps in a couple of months time or, perhaps, tomorrow.

Buy what fits your needs now.

Only difference is Apple seems to release things on a pretty regular timeline... ;)

Look, I'm not a complete idiot -> nor do i feel that it warrants me being flamed about a simple question. I realize all companies have their discrete projects and normally don't share with the public. As you said, APPLE does release on a regular basis and they hold keynotes to that effect. RIM (BlackBerry) is another one of the companies that do the same. There are leaks all the time of consumer electronics, I just never see anything from Pioneer. I have no idea when to expect to look for a sneak peek either.

Its not like its a few hundred dollar investment that we can get at a discount talking to the right person. These are a few THOUSAND EACH! and we need more than 1 (usually) at a time. In my case, I want another 2. Key word there WANT. I have 2 already but feel I'm ready for another set. That set could be between 3k-5k + tax depending where I get them.

Most of the people in my circles are driven by what I have, meaning -> Mike always has the best, we need that.  THink of The Joneses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Joneses , not that extreme. I do the research, and make the investment. Due to some non disclosures, i can't go into detail on which products, But i beta test hardware for a few companies out there and get to see use and provide feedback on upcoming products.

A little hint like,  "Some interesting things are happening and XXXXXXX event should be attended" - I'm not  a world class DJ (yet) so I doubt I'll ever be in the know on upcoming products from any of the ProDJ companies. Its nice to get  hints every now and then though. Apple ends up, as with most consumer electronics companies, inadvertently giving hints with the release of accessories.

I realize I am being overly sensitive and WAY off topic, I just have so much going on its hard sometimes to dig around to find exactly what I'm looking for.

@Moto Mike > The thing to realize is that Pioneer is not a company to release any hints or info on any products before it's official public release. Even if you did some major digging around, you wouldn't find anything out there. The only time I have ever seen Pioneer release hints of anything was the release of the CDJ-2000 and it was still a full planned promotional campaign leading up to it's release. I guess there was a similar campaign on the DJM-900 but wasn't as big as the CDJ-2000's release with all the world class DJ's testing them out and filming clips with them. The DJM-900 was only Zabiela to my knowledge.

That's the way Pioneer handles its business and promotions, and I think they are a very professional and respectable company to not have any leaks on future products.

If you need or want something now, you should buy it. The longer you wait, the closer you are to your next purchase being out of date. That's the way it works with every type of technology whether you can determine the next release date or not.

Problem: Company X announces Widget2.0; newer, faster, better, cheaper. Widget1.0 sales fall off the charts, companies who have Widget1.0 in stock as inventory are now stuck with a product that won't sell because customers want 2.0, not 1.0.

Pioneer's not trying to screw anyone around but there are rarely any leaks or announcements before official statements re: new products.

Leaks for new products is detrimental especially if the company is strap on 'cash’ (which I think Pioneer is not) *but* debatable.  It can have its merits.

Whereas, leaks on fixing broken functionality (e.g. DJM-2000) is like sugar that will attract flies.

Hi there. I probably found a solution for "Lossless". If you're browsing around on your USB / SD Card and you want the fastest way to get to the search function, then press on the USB / SD Button on the left, you'll get immediately to the main menu where you can easily select the search function (sort it in rekordbox as the 2nd or 3th one in the list, so you'll be faster).

Let me know if this works for you :)

I'm aware of using the USB button to jump to the menu where SEARCH can be accessed but still feel that the procedure is clunky and overly time consuming.  Holding down BROWSE while touching the NEEDLE STRIP to input characters seems like it would be the fastest way.

@GlasEye2 > "Debatable"? I think you should take a read of the company's financials ;)

@Lossless > Your idea has been suggested.

@Gavin:  The debatable portion of my comment was about the "Leak" which is being supressed (or the absence of it) and not regarding Pioneer's financials.  It was followed by a qualifier . . ._ "Whereas, leaks on fixing broken functionality (e.g. DJM-2000) is like sugar that will attract flies."_
