Portable (external) Solid State Hard Drive Anyone use this with their CDJ-2000?

If so...

How does it work for you? Any suggestions comments on using an external Solid State.

I am imagining absolutely no real lag-seek time for tracks.

Hi there! i use about a year ago, only ssd drives at the cdj's and i can only recommend them. No errors at all, very fast at exporting tracks and no delay-lag at loading tracks on the (4)cdj's. I use: intel ssd 320 series with a 2.5'' external usb 3 case. You should look up for the connector of the drive you wanna buy, because the usb3 connector's are most all of them like the one you show in this link, and they are very fragile. I found a case that is usb3 but have the "old" classic usb connector (with double cable for usb3 power). Try to found something like that.

Very good information. Yes the intel drives I have heard perform pretty rock solid. + Yes I also was worried about that dinky little USB connector.

@ Tasos:

Hey bro. I am really interested on jumping from my external regular 2.5 drives to a SSD one. Do the 2k's support all of them? What about the transfer speed? Are the 2k's also able to receive all the data in such speed?? I think the USB 3 plugs are different (with more wires in it) and the transfer tax is like 10 times the USB 2. Would we need then a USB 2 capable drive?

Sorry for the buch of questions and thx in advance.

ok found the answer in some other thread thx:

Gavin: "Yes, USB3.0 is supported but at USB2.0 speeds. Make sure you format the drive to FAT32 before use."

so it doesnt actually support 3.0 speeds... shame...

Now I am not so sure about the effectiveness of the SSD for this purpose but the advantage of not having to use a TT cushion for putting under the HD to avoid too much vibration on weird dj booths.

Hi Stroboscope! No problem about the questions, thats why we are all here! Well, the 2k's maybe not take advantage of the usb3.0 but that doesn't mind at all. It's not the usb3.0 speed thats maters in a ssd drive, it's the very small access time! A regular hdd has an access time of about 7-9sec, but a ssd drive has 0.1sec. You realize thats a huge different. ssd drive has no mechanical parts at all, it dont need any external power, and it never goes "sleep". Usb3.0 speed maters when you connect your drive to the pc usb 3.0 slot and export mp3's from recordbox. The you will see a big differens too.

Cool I will buy one for sure since I use just uncompressed files and that also takes a lot of time for me. Thanks a lot for the explanation bro!
