CDJ-2000 and MIXER SETUP Q'S

If I get either the CDJ-900 or the CDJ-2000.. Do I need to get SSL? Reason im asking I really just want to use ext portable usb hard drives to fetch my music.. Any exp users been there done that.. Do usb HD keep up with the 900/2000 like serato/SSL?

what mixer would you go with for scratching and alot of inputs?

@Gerald > No, of course you don't have to use SSL (unless, of course, you want to). Laptops usually work well when searching through large libraries of music but if you get on rekordbox and sort your database of music with that then you may find that you'll stop incorporating the laptop as part of a live setup and just use the CDJs instead.

As for a mixer, I'd go with the 900 or 850.

Ok, if i go with the 850 ill be cool?  also if everything is organized my way on rekordbox, will a great usb hard drive, load my mp3s, as quick to my cdjs as serato?? Are the 850k good enough till i make better moves? or whats the lowest cdjs you would go with usb and quality?

I use an external hard drive with my MacBook Pro and then LINK to the CDJ-2000s.  Never had any problems.

I like to use Rekordbox on the laptop because my mixer (not Pioneer) has a USB soundcard built-in, so I can route the audio from Rekordbox into one of the channels on the mixer, which effectively gives me a preview deck.  Otherwise, I would be stuck just using my 2 CDJ-2000s.

With the 850's you would need two USB drives, one for each player.  With the 900's you can link them together and/or to rekordbox running on your computer.  Either case, you don't need SSL or any other DJ software.
