Beatmatching on Pioneer.

Hi there, I just had a general question before purchasing the latest Pioneer gear.

So say I've got a tracks playing on a CDJ 2000 which is coming to an end and I want to start beatmatching the next song, which is in the same key and same tempo, when I press play on the next track and my timiming is slightly wrong and the tracks aren't playing at exactly the same beats, will quantize fiw this for me ? I mean will it get the 2nd song to play to the closest beat on the first song or would I have to fix it manually ?

I hope I'm clear enough !

Cheers ! :)

Thomas

No.  Quantize does not affect the timing of your manually activated Cue.  Quantize is keeping loops in sync, if I understand correctly.

You will need to make a quick correction on the jog wheel to fix your mistimed Cue.

I do think this would be a brilliant addition to the CDJ-2000 functionality, however.  Perhaps the mods can pass along to the engineers for either a future firmware update, or a future model improvement?

Do we really need to keep on asking manufacturers to design their kit to do more (read: all) of the work for us?  How about they refine and get 100% working what they already offer?

Actually, I'd like the next gen of players to decide on and select the next track for me...

Haha, that's actually a good idea, maybe have a list of suggested tracks that are melodically compatible... Just kiddin'.

I was just curious in knowing what they actually do though I don't think Fuse is wrong in saying it would be a good addition. Maybe it could be a feature that you could activate or disactivate so that DJ's that want to stayoldschool can do so but those who want the addition and find it helpfull can use it.

@Thomas > Say you want to create a 4 beat loop. Doing so manually, you might create it a few frames shorter or longer than exactly 4 beats (accidentally) and then have to edit the loop to get it just right. Quantize snaps the out point right to where it should be at exactly 4 beats so that you have a perfect loop.

@Thomas & @Fuse > Having a 'Quantize' that would beatmatch for you is called 'Sync' - thats available on our controllers ;)

Cheers gavin. Could you use sync say with 2 CDJ 2000's a DJM 900 nexus for instance ?

no ,  the cdjs won't sync...

You need to use software like traktor or virtual dj when you want to use the sync function

I wouldn't fork out all that cash for a pair of CDJ2000s if you're asking those questions. It's like buying a Ferrari before you learnt to drive or even sat in a car. I respect everyone has to start some where but knowing what kit does is the most basic start point.

@ Gavin  -  I pointed out the correct answer to this thread.  No, that Quantize is simply for loops.

And I wasn't really suggesting a full Sync function, just perhaps a quantized Cue start.  If the loops can be quantized then I can't imagine its a huge leap to apply that to the start button.   I'm not saying it syncs everything after you hit start, but it would be a useful feature.

I'm not like lobbying for this or anything... by now I think people on this forum should not I'm a pretty staunch defender of the CDJ-2000s in their current form.....   just saying it would be useful.

I've been using the 1000's  for a while now, and I was just wondering wheather the feature had been added with the link feature. Not saying I want it or need it, just to be clear here ;).

@Fuse > Yup, thanks! We'll put it forward as a suggestion (think it has been suggested before but no harm in a little reminder!).

The cdj's are so easy to use there really is no need for a sync button, i personally would be quite pee'ed off if a sync button was implemented, i like the fact that ive spent 15 years perfecting and improving my mixing, after all the thousands, of hours ive spent learning the skill i certainly dont want people sneering and saying im ''cheating'' by using a sync button,

i can understand the use of quantised effects and loops, but theres certainly no need for a sync button on cdj's.  next they'l be wanting to swap dj's for a 6 disc autochange cd player :/

I pretty much behind Aaron comming to this...

im behind those decks since i'm 8 or so i started with a controller but the sync still does not make the beatgrid correct and such.

just learn to press play on a kick... that's it owyeah dont forget to count 1-2-3-4

Tbh no dj really ever presses play exactly on a kick (maby sometimes it happens) but with practice one swipe on the jogwheel should be enough to correct it
