FollowJust bought 2000/Nexus, How do I browse usb tracks from iPad
Like the aero, I would think for the price of these decks I could browse USB flash drive tracks via my iPad RB app, No? I cant see how to do this, nothing in the manual, And one of the main reasons I purchased the deck.
Can a Pio rep confirm this since a bunch of people have asked and no one has an answer yet

THank you!!! Some little grips I hope Pioneer can iron out quick though :(
That's kind of Weird that you can see the USB drive on iPad?
can or can't? you should be able to see it just like aero's feature
Yeah I know. When I use the aero I could switch to see the USB stick. I wonder if it has to do wit the router? Or maybe the app does not allow the cdj nexus to use that feature yet? So am guessing
That most of been hard to spend money on these decks! Cuz man if that was me I'll be in the store fighting to give my money up. Did you get a second mortgage to buy these deck?
hahaha, Nah, I sold my 2000's for a decent amount and got a good deal on the Nexus so it wasnt a huge cost difference
Nice! Where you live man so I can see these baby in action. Lol
I might go to some off the local store in NYC and pretend am going to buy them. So this way they will let me play with them.
LOL,, thats a good idea!
I hope BriChi you enjoy to the maximum your new purchase. Take care
:)
nice news for you BriChi!!! you lucky bastard ;)
Feel free to review the decks ...i'm interested in your opinion :)
quick review:
ipad app and RB crash A LOT when transferring a lot of files at once, plus after it crashes it leaves the files on the ipad but the RB app doesnt see them so it's a waste of space
album art always showing is a problem and takes up space being that I have no album artwork
iPad not reading usb drive from other deck annoys me
some other minor quirks but I dont want to complain to much :)
Other then that, the decks are pretty sick and I am sure updates will iron out the bugs I have found, the searching is a lot quicker from the screen to a large HD, waveform is cool, auto hot start load, Active loop, etc.... these are all things I missed when ditching serato and now they are in these decks, so the upgrade was worth it for me. I am using them on 2 parties saturday back to back so that will be a good test run
I just want to add my support for browsing a USB device on the iPad, and by association a proper full resolution iPad app to do it with.
Dito
it's killing me this isn't part of the Nexus right now, I have so much organized and exported to a USB drive and would love to browse/search it via the iPad like you can on the Aero controller.
Pulse, Gavin or Foster, Any word on whether or not they will be adding this feature, I cannot understand how it is not part of the decks already
I ....
1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% AGREE with you Bri
I will ask the same question ... Im in the same situation as Bri, and have tried to work around it, but I just want to use my Ipad to search
Having 16GB on an Ipad is not enough and 64gb, is small aswell
I echo "Pulse, Gavin or Foster, Any word on whether or not they will be adding this feature, I cannot understand how it is not part of the decks already"
and would like some answers please!!
I echo this aswell. This question has been repeatedly asked since these decks were released and it has not had a single response, just ignored everytime.
I think this Is a must have... can it be applied as product suggestion ? or is there a hardware problem ? who knows
I would like to buy the nexus, but things like this keep me away from it.
It would be so easier if I could browse on a big ipad screen
Frankly Pioneer, I think an answer either way would be most appreciated. Atleased we will then know were we stand !
Again I echo "TheOne" ...... "It would be so easier if I could browse on a big ipad screen"
I go back to my point the other day, just not responding leads to people getting more annoyed, there is no need to bottle it up - then wait for the explosion when its not confirmed.
Please give an honest answer - Yes or No to this issue
The Aero can... Now can the CDJ2000 Nexus support this feature?
I was initially under the impression this is how the search may perform too. But then when it wasn't included and I thought about it, why bother?
First, if you are using rekordbox to prepare your USB sticks searching should be easy anyway. I can understand have rekordbox mobile search for tracks on the iPad and send them wirelessly but whats the point in having the iPad search the USB stick when the USB has already been prepared with rekordbox anyway and the difference in time between searching via iPad or searching via the CDJ isn't really a factor.
So, I ask, because I need some good feedback, that this would be a good. Your thoughts?
I have a couple of reasons why,
You add support for iPads to be plugged in and played from yet you cannot use AIFF files, So you can at least add 1tb worth of AIFF files to a usb external, yet use the iPad to browse and search those tracks
I would like to "leave the laptop at home" like Pioneer says BUT for mobile dj's that right now is almost impossible. I want to be able to keep RB on my laptop to organize and export all my music (26,000+ files) to be ready for any event and any request a client throws at me, to do this all off a usb drive stinks because at times when I read a crowd, a song I normally wouldnt play pops into my head, I would normally quickly search and drop the track, right now you cannot do that on the 2000's, it would be cool if the iPad read the usb drive plugged in and i can the ipads screen and normal keyboard to quickly search and drop the track, the needle strip for typing is cool, but by no means fast.
If pioneer thought this feature was pointless, why is it on a controller that is almost half the amount of money then the Nexus? whether anyone thinks it's a good idea or not, the technology is there obviously and should be added to a flagship product that costs as much as it does, especially when your competition is doing it on $800 decks, and doing it well I might add. I tested it all out on the other brands and it works perfect
plus, this was a huge feature I LOVED that is on the Aero, bought the Nexus expecting it since they bragged about wireless ipad capability so like you, we figured it would be included, now its not so we feel jipped being that, again, a controller half its price has this feature
right now honestly, if you dont add this feature, the ipad usability is useless for anyone with a decent size library, we would still be forced to use our laptops
I second third and fourth this, the tech is there, what's the problem??? Open source it and it would be working in 48hrs.
Id really like to swear here ... that's how wound up I am about saying "what's the point"
I back all of Bri's points and likewise brought a Nexus for this feature, then to be told "Whats the ** Point!!"
WOW ....................................................................
Ok for a Start an Ipad can hold 16 or 32 or 64 gb of data
USB is indefinite .......... no limits !!!!!!!! What is the point of spending another £700 on a 64gb Ipad ........ when 64gb is not even enough !! its another £700, how is this cost effective!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gavin to be honest, I think you have completely missed the point.
Another fact, I have large fingers, my finger tips DO NOT FIT on the touch pad, please tell me how Im meant to use the strip search when the tip of my finger fits both "A and B" - its quite frankly a joke. A keyboard input OR the Ipad ... was the way to get around this ....... A FULL qwerty Keyboard imput would have done the job!! But the Ipad option was a nice second best - especially how the Aero system works - its great
Now what happens when you buy the Aeros more expensive all singling all dancing cousin ... Its a MESS.
I wanted a keyboard solution without using a PC or Mac and quite frankly, Im quite insulted my Pioneers "response" on this issue, I find it extremely patronizing and very condescending !!
Since 2007, ive been looking for a Media player that will search with a keyboard and has similar features to Serato
Serarto, is a proven system, their software works from every angle unlike Rb which is full of "Mixvibe errors", but like Bri, I DONT want to use my Mac ... I like the CDJS .. and want to use the Nexus in the way I was sold it would work, only after did it become apparent that this was a GREY AREA with the Nexus
to be frank - I think your Nexus Ipad support is shoddy at best, and I really feel ive wasted £3000. I brought the Nexus to use the Ipad feature - I was happy on my CDJ2000, they did what they said on the tin, they worked ... The Nexus firmware is floored from every angle, you just have to read the forum over the last 7 weeks to learn that.
You have even blocked the SD option for Androids .... I cant understand the logic ??
@ Gavin : Because It's a HUGE feature for the nexus!
this is something useful.... we can search on a big screen unlike the touch strip witch isn't that great, and takes alot of time....
I can rarely use it. Want to know why ?
1) I sort in different categories, here are the steps I need to do ==>Select Genre ==> ALL ( artists) ==> ALL (albums) ==> then I get my list ==> Sort by date added.
2) If I want to use search I need to press the Back button 4 times until I can select the search option
3) I use the search
4) I want to go back to my previous sort categories ==> I need to repeat step 1
So that takes up a lot of precious time...Is there a other way ???
Having a Ipad would make the job easier....Not only for the problem I just mentioned, But in overall use.
A big screen / tablet interface makes the searching a lot easier!! period! you can't argue with that
You can use your " what's the point " argument for EVERYTHING on the cdj...
What's the point of having SYNC when you have ears ? etc etc etc
please report this to the engineers. If the nexus wants to become the best deck available, a feature like this has to be part of it
@DJccccc > Look, for the umpteenth time, I'm on your side here. If you guys have suggestions then I need to gather as much feedback as possible to bring this to the development team. I'M ON YOUR SIDE.
If I'm going to present ideas I also have to judge the likely feedback / response I'm going to get - which I outlined in my post above. BriChi and TheOne make perfectly sensible arguments in a civilised manner. Is that too much to ask?
Fair enough Gavin but from a customer point of view who else do we speak ... let know whats happening, my case, ive been given conflicting information ... unfortutly reading when I read your response earlier today, really was the final straw with these units.
I understand you are trying to give feed back to whoever might be able to sort these issues out, but no offence to your self, the questions have been repeatedly asked without concrete answer in this forum - and no one has given a clear coherent answer on this (as well as numberous other subjects)
Bri has asked repeatatly about this, I have as well since August, then to be told - "it doesn't matter" or "just use the strip search" - is like a red rag to a bull ..............
Im sorry if I was a fraction direct on my last post, but you really cannot understand the depths of my frustration with these machines the way they are in their current state.
I have to use these, 6 nights a week as my current DJ set up, they have taken months of my savings to buy - and been the supposed "best DJ product2 on the market - I feel (along with quite a few others by reading the posts here) that Pioneer as a company have sold me ... and countless others down the river with these products.
They are not as reliable as my previous CDJ2000s, or mk3s ... alot of the features firmware have been poorly designed ... and if you compare the Nexus, to the period after the MK1 CDJ2000 was released (say Jan or Feb 2010) - there were no wear near as many faults
If I wanted to use a needle search I and others might well have just kept the CDJ2000 MK1 .... But a clear answer has only been given 9 weeks after the products release.
I feel cheated Gavin - and its hard to stay calm when you have spent £3000 on good that dont do what they are meant or are sold to do.
100 percent agree - well said.
Pioneer has had our pants down for sure.
