Hope someone can point me in the right direction here, the title pretty much explains what im wanting. I initiate a loop, exit the loop - the loop stays dark orange and the track continues however, if I want to get to the start of the track again I hit the CUE button and the track goes back to the start of the loop and starts looping again. When I hit exit from the loop why does cue take me straight back to it? How do I get round this please.

This is correct. When you set a loop point you are setting the cue to the beginning of that loop point so the logical move when you press the Cue button is to jump back to the start of that loop point. If you want to jump back to the start of the track, I'd set a hoe cue for that point in the track.
