[SOLVED] CDJ350 vs XDJ-R1

Dear Pioneers,

I have recently bought two CDJ350's together with a DJM350 for a price of nearly 1500 euros as my first DJ set. Although for me the overall functionality is quite good, I think a major downfall is that the 350's do not support cue points from RB.

Today I came across the release announcement of the XDJ-R1, which will be available in stores this month. To my surprise this device, which only costs 1000 euros, does have cue points and in addition to that offers much more functionalities, such as the Sampler and Beat FX. You could argue that buying an Ipad is a requirement for a complete setup, but even then the total price will be below the price of my 350-setup.

Does anyone know more advantages/disadvantages of both systems? I would like to know if I did right in buying the 350's, or if I'd better sell them right away and buy the XDJ-R1.

@Jelte > First off, I think its important to remember that you discussing two very different setups. Controllers have usually always been cheaper but generally lack the quality and fall-back-ability of CDJs. At least if one CDJ were to die on you, you would still have a functioning system whereas if the controller dies, you're bang out of luck.

The XDJ-R1 is a much newer system than the 350 setup and, naturally, packs in more technology. There's also HUGE competition in this area of the market.

It would be difficult for me to say you did or did not do the right thing - you made the best decision for yourself with the information you had at the time. All the extra features and functions of the new controller are only good once you think you would actually use them.

Thanks, Gavin. The point you made about the difference in quality and fall-back-ability really makes sense. I will surely take that into account in my decision about whether or not to exchange the 350's with the R1.

@Jelte > Glad I could help. Certainly, you may want to consider testing the XDJ-R1 if you get the opportunity but, in all honesty, you've got a great system as is.
