XDJ-Aero wireless

Hi, I have a question about the XDJ-Aero. Say I am upstairs at home and I have the Aero setup playing a set / mix. Will the tracks I want in the mix have to be on my iphone 4, or will they stream to the Aero from the pc downstairs, that I have all my music on? My iphone 4 is only a 16GB one, with not much room left on it. I have just bought a USB flash drive for it, that is 64GB. I bought that so I can record my mixes onto it, and maybe store some music on it. Thanks for any info. Mark

according to the manual, Havent seen it in a video yet though, You can plug in a loaded usb drive, then connect the iPhone wirelessly to view and load the tracks that are on the usb drive

from the manual:

Loading tracks from mobile devices or computers via wireless LAN

1 Connect the mobile device or computer to this unit via wireless LAN.

2 Launch rekordbox on the mobile device or computer and establish the link.

3 Operate rekordbox on the mobile device or computer to select the track.

4 Operate rekordbox on the mobile device or computer to select the deck on which the track is to be loaded, then tap or click.

Sounds great doesn't it.

I got my Aero on Saturday, loaded the rekordbox app on my android phone and kicked off.

Connected the two and started to load in tracks.  On average they were taking 2 minutes to load in the aero.  These are 320 files about 6 mins long, but this lead time is too long to be usable at a gig, except for loading in an occasional  track you have just bought  or something like that.

Rekordbox a problem.  Constantly crashes on my Mac.  Unusable.  Is there a limit on the number of tracks or something, because it worked with 7400 tracks but when I loaded the rest in and it went up to 13400 it crashes.

Works great with a USB flash card loaded on a Windows XP machine, but doesn't work with Macbook Pro 1 year old maxed out!

The manual says that it probably won't.

All in all a feeling that this is not quite what it should be and frustration that software related issues reduce the effectiveess of the unit.

That's the trouble with being an early adopter, but I have to be because I am writing a review of this for a well known magazine this next week and really wanted it to work.

Will continue working with it and see where I get.

Currently rebuilding my database carefully step by step, so hoping that this will fix the rekordbox problems.

I've got to say that it is a lovely unit and it was quick to load from rekordbox on the Macbook before the database (if thats what it is) got corrupted.

Funny, though that I never have any database issues with Itch, SSL, VDJ or Traktor.

djsince74, does it work well with a usb drive plugged into the aero and then use your iphone to actually look at and load those usb drive tracks? That should work instantly being the tracks are plugged right in to the aero

Hi

Haven't tried that, but it would be great if it did.  Will try when I get chance.

It is a great unit even with a few early learning issues.  And superb quality construction

Cheers

watch this video from about 12:00 in, shows how it works, looks really cool, even on the iPad.  this seems to be one of the best videos on it so far,

yeah, lol... start at about 12:00 in, the technology for this is sick, I really hope they put it in the next Pro cdj, I am not a fan of all in one controllers but would 100% buy a 2000mk2 if this tech was incorporated in it

Yep, I prefer CDJs and I reckon the next version will have this feature and the price will go up again.  lol

noooooooooooo, it cant go up any higher!!! they are expensive enough! plus I cant see how 1 CDJ can cost SO MUCH more then the Aero which is really 2 cdj's AND a mixer, minus the bigger screen and bigger jog wheel, But take the bigger screen off the new cdj and make it cheaper being that we can now connect a tablet wirelessly (that most people already own) to use as our big screen if needed

Yes it does work, but the app is a bit slow might be  better on an Iphone than my Samsung

I reckon it will be OK,  especially with the next rekordbox update and maybe a firmware update.

I*t's certainly usable with usb drive.  I will try with my external hd when I get back home in a week or two, but in the meantime have a couple of usb sticks.,

Not sure what capacity usb flash drives it will handle.

Must read the manual  ;-)

It's all looking good.

I've rebuilt my database in Rekordbox,  no more crashes on my Macbook Pro.  Other great news.  My Macbook is now exporting to USB OK and the Aero is reading the playlists beautifully. The quantise and beatlock are great,  effects v good.  Filters sound good.

Not tried through a PA yet as I won't gig with it until I have my set safely sorted.

I've got a feeling that this is going to be a great product.

I like the build.  It looks lovely and shiny and classy.

Build is very solid.  It feels like a professional unit

and I most likely wont be buying one, the fact that there are not hot starts or cues is a killer for me, I wlll wait till they incorporate this wireless into the next version of the pro units like the 2000
