[CLOSED] Questions concerning the xdj-r1

Since the reveal of the xdj-r1 I have been keeping a close eye on it doing research to see if this could be my mobile solution for certain gigs. Here are the top 3 complaints so far from djs. 1. There isn't two usb hubs for easier transitions from one dj to another. 2. No wifi music streaming for any device unless its to use as a controller. 3. 10,000 song file limit. I just need Gavin or any other mod here to confirm that the 3 complaints above are valid. If so for me number one isn't a issue since both sides of the deck could be easily changed from usb to cd but then again I understand if issues one and two are true then djs would've loved to have the option to stream music through wifi for this reason. If the 10,000 file limit is true what does this mean exactly if I where to plug in a harddrive with more than 10,000 songs would it not work? Also if needed this can be used with traktor 2 and serato with the sound card in itself or do I need and audio box or serato box? Also does remotebox allow to record your mixes? Thank you in advance for your time.

I can confirm these for you since every video and the manual points to the same answers

  1. There isn't two usb hubs for easier transitions from one dj to another. - correct

  2. No wifi music streaming for any device unless its to use as a controller. - correct

  3. 10,000 song file limit. - correct

I am assuming it sorts by alphabet and after the 10,000th track you just dont see anything after

Remotebox is a HID (human interface device) that simply a remote control/display, it is not in the signal chain according to the manual, so it can't record or play from the device.

I just saw on Pioneers official dj equipment specs that on the xdj r1 under slip mode it says yes. Is this a typo because I could not find any info on how one would engage this feature. On a side note if the usb was occupied by a harddrive or usb flash and you had a song on an iphone you wanted could't one use the aux mode that is in the back of the xdj r1? If so this makes up for only having one usb. But Pioneer the next djm mixer does need at least two or even three usb hubs two for software connections and one for recording and playback.

@ Brichi @ pope thank you guys for your help and time.

by aux, are you referring to the additional line-in jacks?  I don't see a reason you couldn't just play out of the iphone into a channel, the challenge being no pitch control (you'd have to drive the playing channel to beat match, no big deal really.)  I do bring a 1/8" to RCA for events where you need to throw on a canned mix for the off-hours to make set up/strike nice for the crew.

@Gavin When you get a chance could you find out if there is a slip mode for the xdj R1. Reason why I am asking is because on the official website of pio it lists slip mode as a feature but can't find how one would engage this feature if there was such a feature on the xdj r1. @Pope yeah thats what I do with 900 nexus it helps when someone has a phone, touch or ipad.

@Gavin, Pulse, am I correct on this?

I am assuming it sorts by alphabet and after the 10,000th track you just dont see anything after

Or does the deck show more then 10,000 tracks but may get slower?

I have tested the R1 with an external HDD containing over 40k tracks... No problems found what so ever...

Regarding the slip mode function... Well if you use the beat loop you don't have slip mode, but as always on DJM if you use the roll function you have slip mode...

but could you actually use the 40k tracks or did it stop displaying anything over 10K?

Well if I only could see and use the first 10k there would have been a problem right ;-) However i didn't find any problems and I've tried playing a track with every single artist on the HDD :-)

I understand that but I wasnt sure if you actually tried to play a track past the 10,000 thrack, which means, if alphabetical, could have been a track past let's say "M"

I sorted the tracks by artist and played a track from every artist. The last one was with ZZ Top and that worked fine :-)

So no need to worry to much about that, just buy the damn machine I'm sure you won't regret it ;-)

I have tested the same HDD on a CDJ2000 setup... According to the manual of both the CDJ2000 and the CDJ2000NXS it shouldn't be possible to see tracks beyond track no. 10.000...

But again, no problems reading or playing all the files on the HDD...

thats files within a folder though which are not passed through RB

Max. number of files - Unlimited (files beyond the 10 000th file within a single folder cannot be displayed)

yet the aero says

Max. number of files - 10 000 files (999 files for files not managed by rekordbox)

so the 2000 is unlimited when using RB, 10,000 when not using RB, the R1 is 10,000 when using RB and 999 when not

Sorry my mistake :-)

However, the sample of the R1 that I have here on my desk, have no problems reading 40k files analyzed by RB :-)

awesome, thanks for the info!

if you hook the ipad app to it to read your drive and your in "track" view, does it say how many tracks you are viewing? Maybe thats where the limit is, in Remotebox viewing the drive?

shit! lol. So i wonder where the bottleneck is then.

Pio reps, can we get an official answer from the engineers on if and where the limit really is?

Jan, if you search your usb drive from the iPad and load the track, is it all fast or is there a delay being you have 40k tracks?

I wish I could get my hands on one to test, my local shop say mid-end July

All answers are coming upon release of the gear, refer to the press release for any and all answers.  We aren't releasing some answers because there could be a fw change that would void our answer.  Specs are to be announced at release of product..

The only authorized Pioneer moderators here are Pulse, Gavin, Andy, and Me, so any other responses are not considered to be internally sanctioned....
