How are the platters? Do they feel alright?

Follow[SOLVED] Have a loaner XDJ-R1 if anyone has questions
Just got loaned a XDJ-R1 for the weekend so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!
for anyone concerned, like me, There definitely is a 10,000 file track limit, RB will not create the library on the external if you have more then 10,000 tracks on it :(... you get the message below and then the window says export failed
let me just say this Remotebox app connected to the R1 is f'n awesome. I can care less about the effects part and the fact that it controls the mixer (it is cool though), but the browsing and searching ability from the ipad reading a usb drive plugged in is nothing short of amazing, CDJ Nexus owners NEED this!!!

Quality of. the cue and play buttons? They seem like the cdjn350 cue and play buttons
Does it feel solid like the ddj sx?
Thank you

Platters are definitely good, A friend of mine has used the DDJ-S1 and the SX, He said the platters on the R1 are more like the S1, the SX still has the best platters. Hope that helps ya

They are definitely solid, I was hammering away on them last night mixing a little and they felt like a CDJ900 type sturdiness
Does the 10k song limit apply if you don't analyze the tracks? If I stick a USB with more in the slot, can I actually browse past the limit? It sounds to me like the limitation is on the software side when creating the library/exporting for use on an R1.
Pls confirm...
what I have tried quick last night (will do more testing tomorrow being I have 2 parties today) I plugged in an external with 20,000 tracks that never touched RB but I could only brows by artist it seemed from the iPad, I could not see anything in the "track" tab and i could not do a search for a track being there was no DB created my RB, also trying to scroll on the iPad (i have the ipad 2) was very slow
Darn I was hoping for SX type platters. How about the FX quality- sound good?
yes, the FX are great and the ECHO is like the good DJM800 echo, not the crappy DJM900 one
though it pains me to say this (because I *hate* relying on an external device) if the thing supported track profiles and cue points on the tablet device I'd be sold...
WRT: cue/play buttons, almost all pioneer devices use the same microswitch underneath the fancy button we bang on, and that switch is terrible. I have yet to come up with a more reliable mod that is easy to install.
Thank, Bri. I'm more interested in how the file names display on the unit with an unannalyzed collection so when you run further tests with non-rekordbox content, please let me know how the file names display on the actual unit itself and also if the count goes past 10k.
Thanks brother. You should be a mod by now...
Thanx for the answer brichi.
@BriChi have you ever used an aero? I'm looking at buying one or the other to take to a smaller venue I play at instead of my nexus. witch one would you prefer?
@Morgo > I've played with both several times and I'd go with the R1, personally. Works great for mobile gigs, especially.
I'm with Gavin, the hot cues alone on the R1 makes it better for me over the

So I dragged over my PROMO ONLY folder which is roughly 10,500 tracks all sorted by folders based on releases like mainstream radio, urban club, etc.... and then I have it broken down by year/month. the ipad app allows you to browse this oNLY by folder view, you will not see anything in track/bpm/playlist views and you can not type in a search box being that non of this has a RB database.
the tracks show up on the R1 as you would expect, name title is fine and the BPM is calculated pretty fast
I cannot tell if it's limited still to 10,000 tracks being that there's no easy way to tell this. I am going to "assume" though there is no limit this way being that the R1 and the ipad app have no clue how many tracks are on the unanalyzed drive. Again, I cant say 100% though.
All I do know is a RB analyzed library is limited to 10k
Aero, Although I am still sticking to my current setup until the controller comes out. This one just doesn't do it for me personally
can you call up memory points beside the hot cues?
Thanks for the feed back Gavin and BriChi.
@FredL - No, just hot cues
No problem Morgo
Awesome that the echo effect is more like the djm 800 vs the 900 hopefully future mixers will be the same. @ BriChi you mentioned your waiting for the controller which one?
Does anyone know if the lights around the platter can spin like the CDJ400? I'm guessing not cause couldn't find any thing in the manual.
@ BriChi you mentioned your waiting for the controller which one?
just the next one they will release, obviously there will be a better one to come within a year or a little after, this one just doesn't do it for me
Does anyone know if the lights around the platter can spin like the CDJ400?
no, they do not
