[CLOSED] XDJ R1 Freezing up and crashing

I am using a USB flash drive (16gb)

All songs analyzed through Rekordbox and put on drive exclusively for XDJ R1

Everything works great. I can use both my iphone to load things and I can manually load a song onto a deck.

About 5-10 minutes into mixing one deck will freeze completely making the song turn into a screech- like an abstract screech noise and stays stuck on this annoying noise. Nothing responds and everything is frozen.

Both decks will freeze and USB completely unresponsive. The iphone will lose the LAN connection and I have to shut down the XDJ R1 and restart.

Once I restart it everything is back to normal again and functions fine.

It does not matter if I use the iphone connection or do things manually- both decks have frozen and I have had to restart the machine.

I am currently loading a different USB drive to see if this makes a difference but I am hoping someome can give me some incite. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong.

Hey all,

I'm sorry that this took so long to be issued, but the engineers have released firmware version 1.13 for the XDJ-R1, which addresses the following issues:

Noise occurred when playing some tracks on a USB storage device.
Hot cue position was not on the beat position when it was called on rekordbox even if it was set on XDJ-R1 with QUANTIZE ON.

does it crash like this on the same track, like at the same point within that track, or is it doing it at random?

Random. Sometimes it's when you loud a song and other tunes its in the middle of the song. Both decks and at moments when I am barely mixing. The high pitch noise is the weird thing - almost like if takes a 1/3 beat of a song and jams.

same happened to the nexus when it came out, sounds like the deck is caught in a very tight loop. I am sure it will be fixed one day

I hope it can! I can't gig on this yet! Also finding issues when working in the same playlist folder (USB) on both decks. Freezes completely and needs to be shut off. Trying to different USB flash drives.

What version he uses when the freeze occurred?

What did he do exactly when the issue occurred?
Did he use loop, hot cue, FX or anything?
If possible, we would like to have a video taken when the issue occurred.

If possible, please send the problematic track file and database.

I use version 1.4

For me it happens when loading hots cues / loops.

Using 1.4

I believe this is occurring in several situations when I have one deck on playback and the other is:

1-Either a loop or hot cue is played

2- an AIFF file is loaded into the other deck creating the whole deck to freeze

These situations cause the deck which is playing to turn into an abstract screech noise and it has to be shut down.

Need more time with it to video but unfortunately I have to go to work today.

i had the same problem on sat nite in the middle of a gig....had to restart tha app and unit... i couldnt even mix on it normally, had to mix really slowly without pressing buttons too fast. then it managed. we need some fixes fast. i work 6 nights a week and its a bit depressing at the mo

So I was playing for 20 minutes when I got the FROZEN deck with the evil SCREAM or Screetch noise.

It is the AIFF files!! If one deck is playing a song and you try to load an AIFF it sometimes freezes where it grabs an abstract and annoying sound clip on the other deck making a screetch or annoying noise. You have to shut the unit down immediately.

WOW! I would video it but I threw an my iphone against the wall and shattered the screen (true Story) - Not having a good week.

I have the same Problem! Its not professionel!!! If they dont fix the problem i send my XDJ back! I have 20 days left for cash back! I used the Mep7000 for 4 Years without any troubles! Some other friends of me would bye the XDJ, but its not usefull for working as DJ!

I had the mep 7000, and then the aero. They had small issues but u could dj with them . U can't with this. We are they're target market...

Yep same thing with me. Except it was mid track - wasn't touching anything. The high pitch screech and frozen unit and remote device. But it is definitely something to do with the remote device. Here's why:

I tried during a set using 2 DIFFERENT iPads. And it occurred on both.
When I quit using the remote device and went to direct control it was fine for rest of set
The app screen freezes and shows a kinda loading look. (Sorry last thing on my was taking screen shots and recordings when this occurred)

I'm really disappointed that this occurred and it has to be fixed - is there any news on sorting this out? I definitely wouldn't use a remote device again until its sorted.

My iPad app develops a phantom user and starts doing it's own thing. When I spoke to the technician he said. Use it without the iPad to isolate the problem. Like u did. My iPad would also start doing it's own thing goin crazy.

No wireless being used here- mine happens when a .aiff file is loaded USB or by hard drive. If a track is playing on the other deck - it freezes with the annoying screech. Pioneer stated to not use AIFF. Now it freezes after about 20 minutes if I search a lot on the hard drive or USB

Even more strange then... I don't have any aiff files on my USB... Only mp3 and wav. Maybe I was just lucky it didn't occur a third time during my set when I was then working with no remote :/

Rang the supplier today who referred me to Pioneer customer services : UK 01753 789789.

The guy said he knew nothing of the problem and said the new update should resolve any stability issues. Incidentally I was running it on 1.03 during the crash/screech incident. I have now updated to 1.04. Pioneer said to trial it again on the update then ring back on 01753 789789 if further problems persist. We'll see...

He knew nothing either of any other issue regarding the loop problems or issues relating to the fx.

There will be no solution for this problem. I have to send my XDJ back to thoman. There is a 30 days cash back. Pioneer does nothing about to help us with this problem. The Problem would not be the XDJ . Without Rekordbox songs it works fine. If you analize your titles with rekordbox - just troubles. Freezing, closing of the remote box and so on. Just for playing at home, but i can`t use this professionel! I have an own DJ Agency with 40 DJs, and i am testing this controler for our DJs. I am so Disappointed!

I phoned pioneer as my shop dj decks asked me to do. I told them last Monday about the faults. They said they will be looking into it. So many djs want waveform support too, where is our answer? I use zero aiffs or wavs cos the aero couldn't handle em before. And I changed em all to 4100hz. . Xdj still crashes. The tech guy said, check to see if your using upper or lower case in the song title on the mp3 that's crashing it.....seriously?? It's just wasted so much time..and even if they get the unit working , there's still the issue of it takes around 30min and longer to add 3 mp3s to your current playlists. This is a big no no for me. I need to add songs quickly , then go to work.

Making DJ software controller systems look better and better for ease of use. Interesting there is so much issues with track playing.

I think the problem is not the xdj . The Problem is the Rekordbox in combination whit the remote box! I have to analyze the songs with Rekordbox! After this I play this with the remote Box!

Problem: Same USB, same Song. Works fine with folder search, if I would load the same song analyzed with rekordbox my xdj crash and freeze with an terrible sound! After freeze, the remote box close!!! So I have to turn off and on the xdj, start the remote box again and have to wait for a new playing! And there are a lot of songs with crashing! The songs are not illegal loaded, original from cd or form official internet dealer!

The same songs, the same HDDs worked fine with the Mep 7000 for over 3 Years – Every week with search and folder modus!!!

Newest Version of Remote Box, Rekord Box and XDJ!

I tried different USB Sticks and HDDs. Every time the same Problem. I also analyzed the whole songs the same time on other HDDs – the same problem!

I am very angry! Because I bought an Ipad to work with the xdj, and it does not work.

If Pioneer do not fix the problem in this week, I sent my XDJ back. Its not possible to play with it! I have to buy the Nurmark – there should be no problem!

I am going to try some songs not analyzed by rekordbox to see if this is the case.When I play just CD's I had loop issues and a large drop in sound output.

i'm from italy and i have the same problem....my xdj r1 loop's is non good and after 20-30 minutes of set when i click in a folder the consolle crash and i restart this to return to play...is very bad!!i hope that in this week this problem was solved, i'm a pioneer supporter from 1997 but this is not correct for pioneer's dj.... need new firmware that fix all of this problem....i have more dj set in this week and i buy this for all...and now i'm bloked!! please solve fast !!!!
