XDJ-RX randomly going to emergency loop and forcing USB reload when loading song...

I am having a recurring problem that happens maybe once every 5-6 hours of mixing on the XDJ-RX.  Basically it stops reading the USB and sets an emergency loop on the playing deck at the point I load a track on the opposite deck.  I saw it get stuck loading the first cue point on the new track just before it set the loop on the playing deck.  At this point I then have to work with the emergency loop that is playing and remove and re-insert my USB drive and only then I can mix out of the emergency loop.

There is no specific error message it just says it cannot be played and the USB then becomes unrecognised so I cannot even browse it without unplugging.  Things to note:

* Firmware is v1.50

* USB drives are 32GB USB 3.0 Sandisk thumb drives - brand new but have had this problem with both drives at different times

* All music is high quality - mostly from Beatport no dodgy downloads or anything

* All music is analysed and prepared in Rekordbox

* If I reload the exact tracks that were playing when I had the problem it does not re-occur so the music files are not at fault...it seems to have no logical trigger!

I cannot work out if my XDJ-RX is an issue or it doesn't like the USB drives?  It is very frustrating when this happens playing out!

This issue has been fixed in the latest firmware ver.1.70.
“Fixed a rare issue where unexpected EMERGENCY LOOP started when loading a track stored in a USB device.”
If you have further feedback, please let us know.
Thank you very much for reporting this issue.
Kind regards,
CRM, Pioneer DJ

USB drives are 32GB USB 3.0 Sandisk  very small ones so they don't get snapped off

All music is analysed and prepared in Rekordboxmine seems to do it early into the DJ set but has happened more then once

i also I cannot work out if my XDJ-RX is an issue or it doesn't like the USB drives?

Can you guys please post the makes / models of the USB drives you've used so we can try and assess if it's a conflict with the USB chipsets?

Hey guys, sorry - thought it might be a formatting issue, Mac is generally pretty good about that.

Please give the new 1.60 firmware a try and see if that addresses the concerns. If not, we'll investigate the drive issue further.

Hi Pulse,

Updated the firmware to v1.60 a couple of days ago but sadly same problem again today - this time I just left it on autoplay in the background to see if any issues arose.  It froze on a track, went to emergency loop and I had to remove the USB drive from USB1...and then plug it in to USB2 so it would read.  Plugging it back in to USB1 does nothing (without turning the unit off and back on).

To confirm it wasn't the track I reloaded it on both decks with no problems and let it load it up by itself on autoplay so again no issue with the actual file.

I took a photo of the screen with the message if it helps...

Might also be useful to know I can plug a different USB drive back in to USB1 after the crash and it reads fine without powering off and on - but the ones it keeps crashing on then have to be moved to the other USB port if I leave the unit on.

Common thread here seems to be Sandisk drives ... any of you having any similar issues with non-Sandisk brand drives?

@DJ promiss >You would be asking me to excuse your french if you said "merde," and if you've been DJing for 19 years, you are at least 20-something years old (likely more) and would understand that if I ask a question for details, it's to provide you with assistance, not because I enjoy typing.

I understand your frustration and I apologize for these troubles, but we are working to try and isolate the issues at hand to identify the problem and resolve them as quickly as possible.

My questioning the Sandisk drives is simply as they have been a common thread among those complaining of this issue so far. I understand your desire to have USB drives which won't accidentally be damaged or removed by drunken patrons, perhaps you might consider getting one of these?

Hi Pulse,

I have since purchased a couple of Transcend mini drives 32GB and had no problems, I also have a 64GB Sandisk Extreme USB drive which once again provides none of these issues so for me it was isolated to the Sandisk thumb drives.

For those interested in an alternative but still very small and discreet alternative....this is what I am now using: http://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-497

Hey Ed and Mark, I might have an idea/solution...

How do you load your tracks to the decks? I always used the big Search knob: select disk 1/ disk 2. Now Im testing again and using the two Load buttons underneath the Search button and it seems to go alright so far...(hour mixing)

Because i think it isn't a USBstick problem but more a loading/buffer thing.

Waiting for your replies!

i have not tried the Transcend yet i have been using my Sandisc extreme with the extension pulse suggested allowing me to keep the usb drive out of the way  and not had any issues at all apart from a unit freeze but 1.50 sorted that out.

Just to let you know that the Sandisk drive theory is just that (at the moment), hopefully the engineers will be able to test them out and figure out if there is some kind of incompatibility or other problem. In the meantime, if you are able to test with other drives / devices and report your findings, that would be appreciated as it helps eliminate problematic RX units / firmware and narrows the search to the USB devices themselves should other USB drives work without issue.

Can you give me/us some names of USB devices (sticks 32G or 64G) that work with the XDJ-RX according to Pioneer? So we can test the Sandisk theory or look further?
