Traktor Pro 2 + DJM2000 + 2xCDJ2000 , Could it be done?

Hi there,

new to this forum.

I have a DJM 2000 , 2 x CDJ 2000s and a macbook pro. So far I have been using it all with Rekord box without any problems. To be able to play lots of samples and loops I bought me a Traktor Pro 2 software.

How can I set it up so that my CDJs control Traktor decks A and B and my DJM Midi touchpad control Traktor sample decks C and D? All assigned to a separate channel on my mixer(DJM2000)

I have tried a lot and watched and read a lot of stuff, but going crazy as I am not able to make it all work together like it should.

HELP please!

Thank you all in advance!

@Hoomzy > Welcome!

In order to get everything setup properly, you would assign all 4 (8) outputs for the mixer within Traktor, one channel (pair) for each deck.  You would add control for decks A and B to the CDJs, then manually add mapping for the DJM's MIDI to the samplers.  It sounds complex, but really, there's not a lot to it.  If you need further help with any particular step, just let us know where you're having trouble.

Thank you Pulse.

1- Problem is how do I get traktor to see the CDJs and the DJM as 1 aggregate device? Or do I need to do that at all?

2- I have had some success with the CDJs and I think I can make them work. just not sure if they should be on CD/Digital input or the USB input of the mixer when used as controllers for Traktor.

3-Same goes for the sample decks C and D, (being controlled by DJM touchpad) I guess they would have to be assigned as an USB input? correct?

4- As 2 channels on the DJM will be playing sample decks on Midi pads and the other 2 will be assigned to the CDJs with RCA cable(analog connection), I am not sure if I should select "internal" mixer or "External" on the initial setup of the Traktor.

I think that is enough questions for now. Thank you in advance.

I think I will be hassling you a bit more until I get it to work! haha

cheers

@Hoomzy > 1) No need; you use the mixer in 8/0 mode which allows all 4 decks to be output from Traktor without an aggregate.

2) If you were only using them as controllers you could actually do without audio cables to the mixer, but connecting them digitally would be the ideal connection for cases where you wanted to play CD or USB sources from the player.  You only need USB from the player to the computer in order for it to work.

3) See #1 - you're just assigning the outputs for those virtual decks to the mixer's USB outputs.

4) You would use EXTERNAL mixer mode as the audio comes into separate channels on the DJM; internal mode would mean you're sending one mixed signal from the software to the mixer ... which you don't really want to do.

Cheers!

So Pulse, in order to get this setup to work properly:

1) outputs set to DJM2000

2) Connect CDJS+DJM2000 directly to laptop via usb

3) assign virtual decks to devices(cdjs/djm) accordingly (deck A -> cdj1 / deck B -> djm2000 / deck C -> djm2000 / deck D -> cdj2) ?

Yep, that's it in terms of the audio - but for control, you need to set the CDJs to BASIC MIDI mode (not ADVANCED), then assign them as controllers via the hardware setup wizard, found under the HELP menu in Traktor.

@Liam > You'll need 3x A to B Male USB adaptors to connect the three pieces of equipment to your computer and then set everything else up as normal. Run the setup wizard and you should be fine. Mac or PC?

@ Gavin > So you just need those 3 AB M/M USB cable to connect your 2xCDJ/1xDJM-2000 ? No additional AI between them and your mac ?

sorry, Im new to this forum

also,

That's what Im trying to do :

  • the 2 CDJs as controllers in traktor pro 2 (no disk, no usb on the CDJs) (HRDW setup wizard > midi controllers > Pionner CDJ 2000 > no timecode > etc)

  • Use the DJM soundcard

  • Use channel 2 of the DJM for the left CDJ (deck A in traktor) and the channel 3 for the right CDJ (deck B)

-  I want to record the mix on audacity (so DJM Prefs > 6 out / 2 in 16bits)

Questions :

1) In order to do what i want, do I need to aggregate the 2 CDJ's together before that ? (Pref System > Audio Input MIDI > Create "CDJ RACK" with the 2 cdjs)

2) in traktor, Pref > Audio Setup > Audio device > "What do I choose here ?"

                               > Output Routing > "What do I choose for channel A, B, C and D ???"

3) So now, do I need any other cables ?

Your help is welcome, because the big day is friday. Thanks

and sorry for my english (french)

@authur tell me about it!!---how do I know my djm has been recognised by traktor as a midi controller? I can see its recognised as a soundcard, which I use, but how can I tell its recognised as midi?- cuz evenwhen I try to map manually, I click learn- tap on the midi buttons but nothing changing-- :(

@no1 > Please don't crosspost; you created your own thread, that's good enough for us to find it.

@Arthur > There are several videos on YouTube describing it ( including on my channel).
