DJM-2000 with Traktor Pro 2

Hi there,

Just picked up my DJM-2000 today and intended to use with TP2 as midi controller. I have applied some tsi files to no avail, and seems this is because the 2000 is not a TP2 certified mixer, is this correct? Just want to be sure before I fork out more cash.

Thanks

Darren

@Darren > A mixer doesn't need to be "Traktor Certified" in order to be a MIDI controller; that's only for people wishing to use the mixer as an input for their timecode to pass through to the software, then have the audio output through the same device.

In order to control the software with the mixer, you CAN load a TSI file, but if you aren't familiar with the mappings, then it may not do what you expect.

Start simple -- did you install the drivers for the mixer?  Is it detected as a MIDI device?  Is the MIDI turned ON on the mixer?  Is the computer receiving MIDI signal from the mixer?  Is the software?

Hi Pulse,

Thanks for the reply.

Ok that's comforting, I don't want to use for timecode.

I did install the drivers. It is detected as a device, not sure about the midi part. Midi is turned on (I think, as some controls are working). The computer seems to be receiving midi signal, as I said some controls seem to be working in the software.

It's just the direct functions which aren't working as I expected, like cross fader, EQ's, etc. The paged sections within the midi seem to be doing their job just fine, like selecting tracks, playing, EFX, etc.

Thanks again

Darren

@Darren > I don't believe the audio section of the mixer has been configured in the TSI to send any signal as that would be primarily used for audio mixing rather than MIDI.  You could configure any of that by adding a control to the mappers then having it detect which knob / button you're using.

This is the one I tried to load:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdx96PkpN6o

As you'll notice from the vid it includes the audio section. I attempted to add these manually but couldn't get the mixer audio commands to be acknowledged within Traktor.

Can I just confirm some simple settings, I'm guessing the mixer needs to be set to Internal to work in the way showed in the video? However on setting this the soundcard options don't stack up (I'm using the DJM soundcard).

@Darren I tried this tsi (while I'm waiting for my CDJ-2000's) and it works with some modifications...

I have set it up with 2 Decks (A  and B) and 2 Sample Decks (C and D)

Preference -> Output routing:

Mixing Mode = External

Deck A = DJM-2000 USB 3/4

Deck B = DJM-2000 USB 5/6

Deck C = DJM-2000 USB 1/2

Deck D = DJM-2000 USB 7/8

Activate MIDI buttons 29 and 40 (see page 11 in the DJM-2000 manual).

Preferences -> Controller Manager:

In the Assignment Table, scroll down to Slot Start/Stop with the value Sample Deck 1 Slot 1 mode Hold and highlight it, change the value to** Sample Deck 3 Slot 1 under Mapping Detail -> Assignment. Keep doing this for the other 3 slots and the do the same procedure **Sample Deck 2 Slot 1 mode Hold but change it to Sample Deck 4 Slot 1 and keep doing this for the other 3 slots.

Repeat the procedure with Slot Start/Stop mode Toggle **and with the Slot Volume**

I hope this helps!

A good idea is to read the Traktor manual about midi mappings...

Cheers!

Yes that's right. I also tried one from Traktor Bible.

Thanks very much for the reply Oakstream, I'll give these steps a go. Just to confirm, with the mixer set to external the cross fader, EQ, etc are all controllable?

You won't see the channel faders moving in Traktor in external mode, no need for that because it works perfect in external mode, both channel and crossfader..

The EQ is moving in Traktor if you activating MIDI on the mixer.

@carlos1 What we're talking about in this thread is how to use Traktor Pro 2 with DJM-2000 (not with the CDJ-2000's), is that what you want? Or do you want to use Traktor Pro 2 with your CDJ-2000's?

@carlos01 I don't use this anymore, I just tested it while I waited for my CDJ's... Download and import the tsi to Traktor. If you're going to use the same setup I used with 2 Decks (A  and B) and 2 Sample Decks (C and D) then follow the instructions for Traktor in the above post.

Why does there need to be a pre-defined TSI?  I'm the kind of user who would be very specific about the mappings and any created by others would be unlikely to meet my needs or personal preferences about the mappings.  Make your own, it's not too hard!

Pulse, the dim 2000 should come with some sort of very basic  tsi file for the money the unit costs, sorry but some people have really struggled with the set up of tsi for djm 2000, i know i have, i have watched all the vidoes on you tube,  seen some amazing things pulled off with tractor and dim 2000. but there not much in the way how to vidoes.  i am sure traktor could make things easier to as well, but that behind me now.

becausei have been saved, and i don,t want to get in trouble or mention third party etc etc, but it has been so useful for me.

i would highly recommend the extreme mapping app in the app store, it has things very easy to set up regarding the dim 2000 and traktor for me.

if there was software like that came with djm 2000 from the start it would of been awesome a year ago.

For the attention of everyone in this thread, please update to Traktor 2.6 which became available today. If your issues persist, please report back.

I downloaded the tsi in the YouTube video above. All works well except at 1.12 into the video it shows pressing the touchscreen to wind the track on, like you would to keep a mix in time if needed. The orange bar seems to shoot up extremely quick in a short period of time. However it takes me ages to get any movement to the orange bar in comparison. Is there a touchscreen sensitivity option on the djm 2000 I've missed, or a setting in traktor that needs adjusting? I've tried a few things in traktor to no avail!

The orange bar I refer to is the one that shows about the waveform when I adjust a track to speed it up/slow it down
