The XDJ-RX is not obsolete because of a change in the software or the introduction of other controllers.
Im very surprised with latest Rekordbox update. I read everywhere in here that Rekordbox would NEVER become a controlling software like tracktor or VDJ. Then what is the point having rekordbox integrated to a device ? Since everybody owns a Laptop, that makes a relatively cheap controller a target one to compete with CDJNexus, and XDJ Rx.

The point is probably that you can leave your laptop at home and DJ strictly from properly formatted USB flash drives and/or external HDDs. Controller cannot operate without a computer, which is one of their most glaring limitations.
The entire point of the RX is that it is a self-contained performance machine. There are many controllers you can use with your 'puter that are anywhere from inexpensive to fancy, with and without interfaces. I personally hate the laptop thing, and when I play out, it is either on a house nexus set-up, or my RX, with all my tracks prepped ahead of time on a thumb drive using rekordbox.
So, the live capability of RB4.x is really marketed to the folks who are really into the laptop/controller thing (e.g. trying to capture the traktor or scratch/itch market) which is okay, just not my thing at all. RX is a poor choice for that approach and that is fine with me.
lostnthesound: sure but the xdj-rx comes also as a Midi controller, something so strange now is that you can control other DJ software but not rekordbox DJ...
Pope:I agree and I'm overall super satisfied with my xdj-rx but I'm talking in terms of valuevon the market and politics. When I chose the xdj-rx, it was because rekordbox was not supposed to be on laptops and I wanted to have something similar to professional DJ so I could get used to CDJ nexus +rekordbox without spending too much money on nexus and have something compact. Without all digital hardware, xdj-rx would be 1000 USD less expensive, that would have given me options to have a higher end/ replaceable laptop, so I hope my rx will last a long time ....
I get your answer Pulse, well how can I use DJ effect pack on xdj-rx with rekordbox DJ 4?
Unless new firmware would include new color effects ...
@Sebastien > I'm sorry, it seems you misunderstood. Currently you can continue to use the XDJ-RX and rekordbox 4 as you did before with rekordbox 3; by preparing and managing your music and exporting to a device.
rekordbox 4's performance mode doesn't currently support the XDJ-RX, and if we see support for it in future, some features may not be available to all devices, such as the color FX.
The XDJ-RX is not obsolete simply because it doesn't have full function of control over rekordbox and all of its features, the same way the DDJ-SX was not rendered obsolete when the DDJ-SX2 was released simply because it doesn't feature FLIP hardware controls or DVS input. You still have the ability to manipulate those controls through other methods.
If and when the XDJ-RX is supported by rekordbox, this conversation can advance.
Dear Pulse, it seems that the feature has been implemented. I d love to try it but the 30 days trial is long gone, Any way to get a short refill ?
Cheers
