XDJ-R1 fault - color effect button has stopped working

I noticed when I switched my machine on to play last night that one of the color effect buttons has stopped working.  I noticed straight away that something was wrong because the illumination of the noise effect button was different to the others and now when you press it, nothing happens.

I am in fact an electronic engineer, but am reluctant to open it up - but the problem is most likely to be a bad connection or a simple dry joint.

The real shame is that I purchased the machine just over 2 years ago, and the unit has only been out of standard warrantee for three weeks.

Any suggestions !!

Sorry to hear that is the result.  I would recommend mentioning that to the agent (in a nice way) and then see what they say.  If that doesn't work try contacting the main Tech Support on the link I sent.

Before my machine was running 1.10, but actually prior to this post I updated to 1.12 .

I didn't want the possibility of tech support throwing that at me.

Didn't make any difference tho - fault is still there

Been in contact with the official agent here (Valencia, Spain) and they have told it isn't in warranty anymore, so they won't fix it.  They've said that Pioneer only give a one year warrantee.  However the unit was bought in Spain where the minimum warranty is two years without exception.

I feel some abrupt letters coming on and a complaint to EU Comsumer Direct.

I'm really starting to regret buying a Pioneer.

I tried to contact them this morning, but they are closed now until the 4th Jan - so not much can happen until then.

I should remind you Pulse, that the UK is also in the EU and that a one year warranty by definition is a breach of EU law a fact that any of your UK customers has the right to challenge.  Your official service agent here in Spain Husertec, S.L. have advised me in writing that they have been forbidden from providing more than one year by Pioneer EU (aginst the law) and that when customers like myself are aware of their rights are then passed back to Pioneer.  I will see what happens, when I speak with them tomorrow.

As a professional DJ, and user of Pioneer products for more than twenty years I have been disgusted by Pionner's lack of help and support to buyers of this product.  I myself have been fobbed off many times regarding many of this unit's flaws most serious of which have never been rectified.  And the numerous unanswered posts on this forum are a mere scratch of the problems people have had and the money they have lost.  This product was sold as pup, and you left us holding the bag.

You make it sound like Pioneer are being saints for supporting their products.  The unit was released before it was in a fit state - and still is riddled with fundamental problems.  All of which Pioneer refuse to acknowledge exist.

Pioneer made it, sold it and should be prepared to stand up to support the people who are having problems.

Just last night my machine locked-up of three seperate occasions.  Perhaps you should try being in a room full of people dancing to see how that feels.

And I just use it to play music via usb, I don't use record box iPads or any of that other stuff.

@LincolnG > Pioneer only warrant their products with a 1 year guarantee, but if there are national laws that require manufacturers to provide a longer warranty, I would expect the service department to know that and support product accordingly. As @djjay suggests, I would also recommend you contact them again and let them know of the policy.

@LinocolnG > I won't get into an argument on your views of the product, as you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Pioneer has endeavoured to provide support and updates where possible in the 2 1/2 years since its release.

The issue of in-warranty support, however, is one that I can't speak to as I am in North America and not an employee of Pioneer Europe. I would encourage you to connect with the support teams there who will certainly be able to provide you with more information on the subject.
