DJM S9 Bugs (esp. with 2 Laptops)

Hello Community,

I recived my S9 5 weeks ago (Germany) and detected some bugs and issues I wanted to report and see if other users experienced them too or would be glad if they are fixed in a firmware update.

General Issues:

Sample Mode: I wonder why the selected sample Bank is not shown in the PAD section display? It would be a great advantage not having to look at ther Serato display but rather have it directly on the mixer what bank is currently on as one can not see this at the Pads (same color). Another option would be to use Bank specific colors for all 6 Pads.

Sample Roll, Parameter 2 (shift pressed): It is not possible to switch trough sample banks when sample roll mode is selected. I can only use Bank A in that mode.

Major Issues using 2 Laptops / Routing Mixer trough SSL Box:

At a gig a DJ colleaque who went back to Serato 1.7 due to software reasons routed the DJM S9 trough his SSL 2 Box. Connection and setting were all right, the S9 should have behaved like in a one laptop setting as one DJ was playing via external devices (SSL Box and not connected to the S9's USB port) and one DJ using the internal sound card.

Problem 1: Without installing the software on the 2nd laptop we were not able to get a stable setup, the internal soundard of the S9 seemed to be in trouble and did not send any signals to the speakers any more. The SSL box did. I do not get why and how the trough function of the SSL Box (no direct connection of S9 and SSL soundcard) interfered with the S9 setup.

Problem 2: As soon as we had the software installed we were able to use the setup (1x SSL 1x DJM S9 with controls/MIDI), but the displays of the mixer totally went out of control. Pads were not colored any more or colored wrong (no cue points set). Color errors occured in all PAD modes. Furthermore the effects display panel as well as the PADs display panel were corrupted, displaying wrong effects or the "please connect serato DJ" showed up although Serato DJ was connected and switches were on 1st laptops Decks/USB Input.

In the end I was not able to use the Pads and Serato Effects. Sometimes the Serato Effects showed up when I switched between Effect Bank A and B, but it was no convincing sollution.

I will check out if the same happens if I normally connect 2 Laptops that means using both S9 soundcards. Please let me know if you have any hints why the setup messes up when routing the signal "through".

Best regards,

Michel

Look into the Sample thought about switching banks.

So your set-up is one DJ just using the mixer with no software and one using SSL, correct?  I have only used 2 laptops running Serato DJ and no issues, so I have to think that SSL is somehow doing something through the box and the soundcard is detecting the issue???  I will look into this.

Thx for the fast answer.

To get it right: The setup is 1 DJ using the S9 "fully" that means with Serato and all functions, while the other uses the box (input is set up via line inputs like CDJs).

And what about the bank switching? When I hold shift in sample roll mode the display says that the parameter buttons would let me switch banks what the do not.

Is the second laptop connected to s9 with the usb port (for midi)?

If that's the case is the second laptop using the latest serato dj or another version or other software?

The midi mapping on the s9 is really weird with serato dj actually sending tons on signals to get it to work properly.

S9 is made for Serato DJ. Otherwise, without seriously professional midi mapping you cannot get all the features to work.
