[SOLVED] CDJ850 HID Traktor Support

This being rolled out tomorrow?

I've not used Traktor before so not really 100% on what it even means.... would I be right in thinking it means we'd be able to control and access files from a computer that the CDJs would be plugged into via USB? ie: no Traktor box or other cables etc?

Cheers

Dave Lee

@Dave Lee > It means you can use the 850 to control Traktor.  It doesn't mean you can throw your Traktor box out the window (although if you have things configured properly with a pair of CDJ-850's as the aggregate soundcard for Traktor, you don't really need it).

True, but I customized things a little bit so I can assign buttons to some functions I like that will not be covered in this one.

For instance I made the reverse button a beat sync button hence I never use it.

Nevertheless why bother if someone else will cover it for you. ;-) (unless one is impatient like me)

once the mapping is released.. is it possible to re map the auto beat loop buttons to use the quantized looping functions inside traktor?? In my opinion those buttons are freakin worthless as it is nearly impossible to get the loop perfectly on beat and the loop wont beat match with the song you are mixing in..

I would love to have those buttons be 8 and 16 count loops on two of the buttons and the other two buttons multiply the loop by 2 or divide it by 2 so you can create your own build ups or extend the loop with out touching your computer..

considering the auto beat loop buttons aren't quantized to begin with, that statement isn't accurate.

I want them to make the loop snap to the closest beat marker like they do inside traktor...

I know this thread has gone a little off of track, but is there any news yet on the HID / Midi control becoming available??? I see some people are talking about the 26th, so yesterday, but I was just wondering if there is an update? Also just clarification as to whether it will actually be HID or Midi? Thanks

as was mentioned earlier...

"We're sorry to inform you that we didn't get the CDJ-850 MIDI mapping file for Traktor today. We hope to have it ready by next Wednesday."

So i think this wed the 29th is our next chance to get the midi tsi.. i hope it doesnt get pushed back again..

Also, can some one from pioneer let us know if we can ever expect HID support and time estimated timeline for  it?? It seems silly that you advertise a product with having it and then the feature goes unused due to lack of support in all the major programs..

@Andrew > Advertising that the product supports HID is not silly -- it's like Apple saying "We have Thunderbolt!" but then, there's nothing to plug into it ... yet.  HID support must be implemented on the software end as well as the hardware end.  We did our part but it's up to the software guys to add support for it, and that's not cheap or quick.

The TSI availability will be announced here and via Twitter when it's ready.

@Pulse: Does this TSI work happen to help CDJ-2000 Advanced HID users aswell? I'm hoping CDJ-2000 would finally get usable with Traktor ..:)

thanks Andrew

I must have misread the date, thanks! Roll on Wednesday, my fingers are crossed and then who knows hopefully NI will pull their finger out and get the HID going for us all!

@Pasi > No; HID is better than MIDI for control with a lower latency, higher resolution of data and two-way communication.  The 850 mapping will likely not work entirely for the 2000 either.

@Pulse: Yep, I'm aware HID is better than MIDI. Do you know if there's something missing from CDJ-2000 firmware to support Advanced HID with Traktor, or is the problem only because NI is still missing Advanced HID features from Traktor software ?

I would love to see advanced HID for CDJ-900/2000 after all this time! but I might make a new topic for that ;-)

@Pasi > It uses a hybrid HID/MIDI which allows for bi-directional communication, but any further development would be on the part of NI as you can see that the player works with many more features with Serato over HID (Advanced).

Yup.  NI are responsible for the lack of Adv. HID support.  At this point, there is no logical conclusion other than a deliberate decision on their part not to add support for this feature.

Maybe Pioneer should push NI more to support Advanced HID ..

NI lists CDJ-2000 as supported controller for Traktor, so it's very misleading marketing when the support in Traktor is very half-baken for a expensive device like CDJ-2000..

I completely agree with you.. there is so much room for improvement

Maybe they've limited it in hopes of selling the more expensive Traktor Scratch version (or upgrade)?
