Serato DJ effects on the Pioneer DJM S9

Hi. My spanking new Pioneer DJM S9 has arrived... all good but I have noticed that when I am playing a track and I activate a Serato DJ effect there is a slight glitch in the track before the effect comes in. Like the track sorta gets mistimed or shifted for a millisecond. It's obvious to the ear. Even when i turn down the level/depth the glitch can be heard. This does not happen with the Pioneer effects - they come on smooth. I contacted Serato and this was their response:

We are aware of this issue happening and have concluded that this is actually hardware dependent when it happens. We've brought the issue up with Pioneer and the ball is essentially in their court in terms of deciding where to proceed with this. I've added your information to the others complied and pass it onto Pioneer. In the mean time would recommend perhaps posting on the forums (both ours and Pioneer) to see if others are having the same issue and if it gets enough traction it might prompt Pioneer to look into this deeper.

Hope this helps, Regards Ian Wan, Product Specialist

Thanks for the post, Patrick.  Sorry you're having issues.  I will be sure to pass this information along to our engineering team.

Ok great. Can you tell me if this issue is my mixer only? Have you had other complaints regarding this issue?

To be honest, I haven't noticed the issue myself, but if both Pioneer and Serato's engineering teams are aware of the comments, it's possible they're working on figuring out what the exact nature of the problem is and how to resolve it. Thanks for your patience while we wait to hear more.

Hello,

I have the same problem. A short, but noticeable cut lag by switch on the Serato Effects.

Best way you can hear, if you take the Flanger Effect, turn the Level/Depth to Min and switch on the Effect.

A audible sound dropout...

At the moment, i only use the Hardware Effects and hope, Pioneer or Serato can help with an Update to solve that Problem.

(For understanding: I use the same Setup with SL4 and DDJ-SP1 without Dropouts!)

Regards from Germany, Andreas

Hey Andreas. I have tried a couple DJM S9's here in Australia and they all have the same issue.... the shop where I purchased the mixer (StoreDJ) said Pioneer should be releasing a firmware update to address the problem.... let's hope so!

Hey pulse!

I have the same problem. I thought it was the computer but I see it is not. I hope it fixed as soon as possible.

Hi there,

I have the exact same problem here. The hardware effects work fine, but when activating any of the software effects i can ear an obvious glitch in the music before the effect comes in.

Waiting for a solution.

Thank you.

hello friends, I am having the same problem you guys at the moment it is impossible to apply effects with this failure, I am using only the native fx mixer, I hope that this problem is resolved as quickly as possible.

Hey Adam any feedback? Still waiting here.... the product is faulty and we'd all like a fix... or at least an update to where the fix is at?

Friends received from serato of technical support advising me to lower the latency of 10ms to 5ms, did what they told me and the problem is apparently solved, I await feedback.

obs: the technical support of the pioneer and very bad, I'm waiting for a return on my faceplate and fader knob until today, sorry.

Hey And And. I tried what you suggested and it does reduce the glitch but it's still there...

the engineers serato and pioneer have to solve this problem, the pioneer could not have put this mixer on the market with so many bugs, I'm disappointed.

Yes i agree. Very disappointed.... I feel like we've been ripped off.... A local distributor told me that Pioneer has no intention of fixing the issue as they are focussing on Record Box - soon to be a direct competitor to Serato.

they should not have done this mixer for serato but for the record box as you mentioned, we have been deceived, my next battle will be a mixer rane, the better.

"No intention of fixing the issue..."??

Sorry, but that's just not true at all. I would consider changing your sources.

Ok. I am asking the source.... When can we expect to get a fix for this?

The engineers are currently working on this issue; we don't currently have a timeline, sorry.

Bug hunting is not always quick or easy, they're still working on it and apologize for the time it's taking to find the cause and resolve the issue.

Is there an ETA? Thinking that my warranty runs for a year.... if it's not fixed within that time i'll prob return it for a refund...

There's no way I could even rough an estimate on it, sorry, but this wouldn't be an issue that would require any hardware servicing, so your warranty wouldn't need apply.

my problem still friends, I'm waiting months for a solution, a lot of money for a product that delivers what it promises. unfortunate.
