Greetings...
I recently purchased the Pioneer XDJ-RX and have some serious issues that I've been had happened to me over the weekend. I would consider myself to be an experienced pioneer user having 2 CDJ-2000's as my main gig set up and have never had any issues using a USB of any sort.
Over the weekend I decided to use my XDJ-RX to gig. I've been using it to gig for a few weeks now with no issues. I initially was using a 16GB Kingston USB but I found it didn't hold enough music. I upgraded to a 128GB Scan Disk USB and used it a few times with no issues... Until the weekend.
About 40 minutes into my Dj set, I went to load a track to the right deck and the dreaded code E-8306 NO FILE popped up. I've read a lot about this code but my case was a slightly different scenerio. So I figured maybe it was that one file that I couldn't find. So I tried another... and another... and another. same code. Mind you for the first 45 minutes the XDJ-RX had no problem locating any of the files (VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND). Other situations I've read about so far the code would come up right when you tried to load the first OR a new track.
At this point I'm starting to sweat a little because the song I was playing in my left deck was running out. I immediately went to grab my other flash drive that I have on back up and before I can place the other USB port, the XDJ-RX freezes up. No sound, wave movement, nothing- completely froze. You can imagine the sheer embarrassment one suffers after being considered to be an "experienced Dj" having audio freeze up and having to completely power down in the middle of my set. I switched back to the Kingston USB drive while occasionally switching over to the Scan Disk flash drive to load my new songs in. I was able to finish my gig with no problems but I was a nervous wreck.
Fast forward to an 1 hour ago. I needed to run a test to figure what the problem was- as you can imagine, having anything freeze up and having to shut down in the middle of a set is every Dj's worst nightmare. I decided to use the Scan Disk flash drive again, but used the "USB 2 Port" this time. Sure enough, 45 minutes into my set, after having no problem locating songs I experience the same problem only slightly different. I went to load a song and all of a sudden the deck gave me a different code (which I did not write down) but basically stated it couldn't locate the file. The XDJ-RX screen froze up again, as I was NOT able to scroll thru the menu- but the left audio was still going... after about 40 seconds I was able to toggle around the menu etc. I went to load yet another track and the dreaded E-8306 code came on. I then tried to load previous tracks that I have already played and the code came on saying it couldn't locate the file (super weird right!?). I tried 4 or 5 different tracks and none of them could be found. And about a minute after that- the whole unit froze up. No audio, all wave files were visible but frozen... Menu buttons were not working.
Now before I test this again using another USB Stick there are a few things to keep and mind and a few questions I have for you Pioneer guys...
1) I eliminated the possibility of it being a problem with the USB Ports 1 & 2 - this happened on both sides.
2) All other situations I've heard the Code-E306 about, happened right when the you tried to load the first track in. It would tell you immedietly. Mine is a little different (and far worse). It happened about 45 min. into the set after loading all music files with no issues, then telling me all of a sudden that the files weren't there.
3) The freezing issue is NOT COOL. I can understand me having to use another audio source however, if the screen freezes and audio stops at some point you're going to have to power down and reset the XDJ-RX. Again every Dj's worst nightmare.
As far as how I'm loading my tracks into the USB Sticks:
I pop both USB sticks into my MAC Desktop. I take the file from my itunes library and drag directly over to the playlist that I have in the USB stick that appears on Rekordbox. Yes I am using an older version of Rekordbox (2.0.1), and I already know what you're going to say. "Have you tried updating to the latest Rekordbox version etc". And my answer is NO... My rekordbox has been working fine with my CDJ-2000's, and have not had this problem until I used the Scan Disk 128 GB Flash drive.. NOW.... with that being said.
Is it safe to believe its't the USB stick that I'm using? Sounds like a very stupid question as the process of elimination would clearly point to a USB stick issue. If so what USB' sticks SHOULD I use? Is it possible that I have to many GB's on the USB? I haven't read this issue in any other forums, not to mention the issue of "freezing" would lead me to believe there's a problem with my XDJ-RX and not my USB.
I look forward to your input as to how I can resolve my issue. And this is very time sensitive so let's get on it boys! :)
