Try a Zoom H1.
I've seen all of the regular suggestions such as a computer or other large hardware, but I'm looking for something compact. What's the point of having a unit like the R1 that "doesn't need a laptop" if you need a laptop to even do a simple recording?
Ideally something the size of a USB key would work (it's a shame this unit decided to go without USB recording).
Reloop Tape is one option but crazy expensive for what it is. Maybe that's the best option. What else are people using?

Try a Zoom H1.
I guess that'll do. Still $100 for having to go out to analog and back to digital though. I'd happily pay another $100 for a r1.5 that had the aero's record direct to USB.
The H1 is a digital recorder. It records to microSD card. Simply pull the file from the card.
The R1 and Aero are discontinued products. While we continue to support them, expecting the implementation of new features is unrealistic.
The H1 is a digital recorder, but as far as I can tell, you have to analog out of the R1 through RCAs as an input to the H1, so you still have to manage/eq levels and what not.
It's not direct/raw to digital recording like it would be on the Aero's built-in USB.
Hopefully I'm just missing something?
