flashing standby light

one of my CD decks randomly turned off. There was nothing I could do to turn it back on.. I tried swapping power cables, changing plugs etc but to no avail. The only sign of life was the flashing of a red light next to the 'standby' button. This light would continue to flash even when the power cable wasn't inserted into the deck.. After a while, the light would stop flashing, and when I attempted to turn the deck on, the deck will say "power on" like normal, then after about half a second, it would completely turn off and the flashing light would reappear
