FollowRekordbox crashed = now "drive corrupted"
Hi,
I was just shoving a load of new tracks into a May 2016 playlist Id created on my flash drive. Went to make a drink, came back and my laptop had shut down.
Switch it back on, loaded Rekordbox and got a "Device drive corrupted (Do you want to delete the device library? " message.
Tried a restart and its still saying the same thing. I havent gone any further than that as I dont want to lose everything. (I can still see some of the tracks on the device, but not all - and NO playlists whatsoever)
Is there any way I can get my playlists and track back? Its the playlists Im more bothered about.

to confuse matters even more, I plugged the flash drive into my Aero unit and all the playlists and tracks are there, but when I plug it back into my laptop, rekordbox is still giving the same "device drive corrupted" message.
Any ideas how to rectify this?
Format the USB drive and re-export. There should be nothing on the drive that's not already in your collection.
When you say "nothing on the drive thats not already in your collection", do you mean on my laptop?
Id say about 90% of my collection isn't on this machine.
Or does Rekordbox remember whats on my usb stick?
Just want to check before I format and lose everything.

hi Pulse, yes. I put everything onto my flash drive through rekordbox.
However not all the tracks on the flash drive are still on this machine and I cant see how formatting it will ensure my playlists come back?
One thing I did try last night was to copy the entire 'corrupted' drive onto a new flash drive to see if that fixed it. I don't get the 'corrupted' message in rekordbox with this new drive, but there are no playlists there. If I load this new drive into my Aero, again there are no playlists there and searching for a track shows the title but the media is missing. :(
Wait, if you've put everything onto the flash drive from rekordbox, why wouldn't all the tracks on that drive still exist within rekordbox? Have you removed them?
yeah a lot of older stuff will have been removed to save space. (I'll still have them on an old machine(s), but not on this one)
Im not too bothered about the actual mp3's as they can be replaced, its just the playlists that I need to recover. Unfortunately rekordbox nor the flash drive (when I load it into rekordbox) seems to have any of my playlists on there :(
However when I put the flash drive into Aero all the playlists are there, however searching for a track by name just brings up a 'no file found' message'.
I understand that the laptop shutting down whilst rekordbox was exporting has corrupted what rekordbox can see, I was just hoping that rekordbox was somehow recoverable, or kept a backup playlist file?
Seems strange that Aero can see the playlists, but rekorbox cant?
Do you think theres anything else I can try?

@David > Sorry to not get you sorted out before your gig, if you've removed the content from your local collection, that's probably the worst thing you can do, considering the cost of abundant of storage these days.
With those songs no longer existing in the collection, even if the drive weren't corrupt, you wouldn't be able to synchronize the device to retrieve them.
My recommendation is if you have the ability to view the playlist on the AERO, first. connect it to your computer and download all the content, then connect it to the AERO and manually rebuild those playlists within rekordbox (if they are missing). Any files not in rekordbox will be on the backup location -- pull those into your music collection and add them to the playlist. Finally, format the USB drive and re-export.
Hi Pulse, no problem. I managed to wing it just using the playlist folders, just couldnt use the search function as was getting a 'no file found' type error message.
I think rather than setting up each playlist again manually and moving thousands of tracks. I'll just start from scratch on another USB

However I cant figure out how to download all the content from rekordbox onto my laptop?
Ive got the latest drivers etc installed, but cannot view the files on rekordbox flash drive on my laptop.
Any ideas?

Wait, where are you downloading the content "from rekordbox" ?? From the export USB drive? From your rekordbox source?
Hi. The content is on my flash drive. The Aero unit can see and play it, but Rekordbox can not.
I interpreted your previous message that I should somehow be able to download the content from my Aero to my laptop and rebuild the playlists that way. Is that possible?

Same has happened to me, but it was user error by accidentally removing a flash drive to fast while it was still busy exporting a few tracks without ejecting it first...
Best is to reformat the drive to ensure no problems in the future while playing live!!
As for the tracks you have removed from your Rekordbox in the meanwhile, it will be unfortunately be lost...
You can try and manually copy tracks off the Flash drive from the contents folder but I would not risk it, as some of those files may not have completely copied and could be corrupt... don't want any errors when playing your next live set!!
I also doubt you can retrieve playlists if you have also deleted them from your Rekordbox...
Guys backups backups and more backups! I have had one of my flash drives stolen at a club once so even when playing out at clubs with Pro Linked set up's I still take a second Rekordbox flash drive with...
@David > If your drive is corrupt, as @Armand says, you should reformat it - but if you need to recover content from the drive that you have removed from rekrodbox, you can try and copy the songs from the USB drive into your computer's music folder, then import it to rekordbox again. After that, format the USB drive, and export everything you need again.
And yes, backup backup backup! I keep several copies of both my library and my exports, and with storage being so plentiful and inexpensive, there is no reason for anyone to delete music from their rekordbox library / main collection and only have it on their export device.
